As a weight loss surgeon I have learned that the key to weight loss is when patients learn to cook. My colleague Dr. John La Puma shares that view, and is the inventor of culinary medicine has written a book for men - and this book is a winner.
Written in a style that combines humor and science, Dr. La Puma provides a simple plan that will help men lose weight, eat better, develop some great snacks- and learn their way around the kitchen a bit- enough to save their lives.
Unlike the advertisements today where every man feels he needs to get testosterone, Dr. La Puma shows how men can raise their natural levels of testosterone simply by eating better, cooking, and watching portion sizes.
Dr. La Puma is not a slave to the modern diet fads of vegetarian or paleo- but provides a balanced approach to diet, and moderate exercise.
I am recommending this book to any man who has a belly and cannot see his vital organ -- and to all of my weight loss surgery patients who are men. In fact, I like it so well, that I have gone on this program myself.

REFUEL for us was like a breath of fresh air in the dead of winter! Finally, relief from the guilt of a growing waistline, no energy and failed diets and exercise plans that required time that was not available. Dr. La Puma has condensed all of the pieces of how to eat, sleep and hydrate yourself so well that 24 days go by without the added stress of special shopping lists, preparation or cooking. Simple planning once a week equals healthy, invigorating meals for the entire week!! The "Man Memos" are humorously scattered throughout, and provide simple explanations of why sleep, hydration and only 10 minutes of exercise a day can make a huge difference.

The easiest way we found to "Refuel" was to forget about eating out. Packing lunches, snacks and even drinks (in reusable bottles) made a huge difference in success. Most people will eat the closest thing to them, so bringing healthy with you ensures that health will accompany you.

This is a reference you will want to keep handy.

I have been looking for and all-inclusive book to recommend to my male clients as an additional resource to help them succeed with their physical goals. This book is it! I love how Dr. John La Puma speaks the truth about the negative impacts of plastic and prescription medications in relation to how the body produces hormones. I highly recommend this book.

Stop watching those cooking shows and get your hands on a copy of Chef MD’s new book REFUEL! As a chef specializing in plant-based nutrition, Dr. LaPuma shared an early release copy of REFUEL with me and I totally recommend this book for anyone looking to lose weight, build stamina, reduce stress and boost sexuality!
I advise clients to use food instead of medicine - go to the kitchen cabinet before opening the medicine cabinet and this book is just the tool they need to help learn how to do it. Although I eat a dairy-free vegetarian diet, I fully endorse Dr. LaPuma and the REFUEL plan for anyone who is not interested in being fueled totally by veggies.
This is no diet book! REFUEL by Dr. John LaPuma is filled with info from how to Master your Metabolism to how to get your MOJO back! #CYCYP??? The book features a 24 day plan with 3 phases and includes recipes, stress-relieving strategies and a guide to the right supplements. Even though the book is written for men, I enjoyed reading it and will even be using many of these tips in my own daily regime. You can be sure I will pass this book title along to my male friends and clients but my copy is staying with me!

No one likes to admit everything they eat or drink, how much they exercise (or don't) or how little sleep they are really getting or worse-- to be told how to fix it from their spouse -especially men. "No amount of goading will work" according to Dr La Puma on getting men to visit the doctor.

Makes sense and if you follow the clearly laid out plan you will notice a natural testosterone boost and weight loss in short order. I started my dietary education with Robert Lustig (Fat Chance), who provides extensive evidence of the poisonous nature of the modern diet. I then read Loren Cordain (Paleo Diet). LaPuma came next in my reading and his work and Cordain's are very consistent with each other and with Lustig's research. A pure Paleo diet precludes legumes and grains, but LaPuma's doesn't, and Cordain allows to go a certain percentage Paleo. I have never had problems with grains or legumes so I include them in my diet. After seeing Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and reading the accompanying book (Reboot) I decided to do a juice fast. All of these authors are very consistent with what they have to say about human diet.
