In case you are wondering why Amazon has put the artwork for the "Lovers" pt. 1 single up for what they are calling, "Refugee Pt. 1" ...they have made a terrible mistake! A few months ago I went looking for the singles for the "Here Come The Tears" record and was really puzzled about why they had 2 listings of "Refugees" pt. 1. And, I also wondered why they had the wrong artwork up. Well to make a long story short, I figured that I would just have to live with not having a full colection of The Tears catalog. But, after ordering the other 3 singles (Refugees pt. 1 & 2, Lovers pt. 2) and some thought about Amazon and their 2 listings, I figured I'd take a chance and just order this second lising of "Refugee Pt. 1" with the cover art for "Lovers" pt. 1. and if I got a duplicate, I would simply return it. But, to my delight, a week later I was very pleased to find out that my hunch about their mistkake was correct and now I am proud to say I have everything The Tears ever put out (including the limited edition 7" singles with coloured vinyl).

Great B-Side,

This review is from: Refugee 1 (Audio CD)
I had purchased this single before the release of the album, listening with trembling fingers at the prospect of the return of the classic Anderson/Butler partnership....waves of "The Asphalt World", "Black or Blue" and "The Living Dead" ebbing and flowing through my head as I pressed play. "Refugees" was a bit of a disappointment I have to say, as it sounded pretty much like typical Suede post-Bernard. The album is a bit more of the same, with a few lovely exceptions. "Southern Rain", the B-side here, exceeds the A-side easily, a lovely little piano based ballad with that old-Suede flourish. This would have found a nice home on the album, but at least you'll get to hear it here. 4 stars then for this track, know that this single is a worthy purchase if you at all enjoyed the album "Here Comes the Tears", but still yearn for a bit more.
