5.0 out of 5 stars Forever With Us In Music, July 2, 2010

Dr. Feel (GA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Refuse to Be Lonely/Forever With You (Audio CD)
Phyllis Hyman was one of the best female vocalists in the history of recorded music. Incredibly talented but tragically underrated, Phyllis had a unique voice that was just mesmerizing - smooth, passionate and powerful, yet never over the top. The way she sings the song "I Refuse To Be Lonely", you can just feel the passion with every note that she sings, and it touches your heart and soul. Her music is more than just songs, she made them personal testimonies of her inner feelings and emotions about relationships.

Here's a two-fer featuring Phyllis' last two albums, both released posthumously. "I Refuse To Be Lonely" is very similar in content and style as its predecessor "Prime Of My Life", and is the album that she had completed a year prior to her death but the execs at PIR would not release it. Both of these albums contain some of the best music that Phyllis ever recorded, but was never promoted or played on the airwaves. Both of these albums should have been certified gold.

It is sad that Phyllis never got the respect that she deserved. It has now been 15 years since her passing. But her voice and her music will live forever, and there will never be another voice as great as hers. Forever With You, and Forever a Fan.
