We needed a baby gate that was wide enough to put at the bottom of our stairs (about 41 inches), but other extra wide gates were expensive once you had to get the extensions to make them wide enough or you had to hardware mount them to the wall and who wants to screw things into their wall? Or, in our case, the banisters on one side of the stairs. (the gate DOES come with hardware mounts though if you prefer)

This gate is great and we feel it's a good value. It operates easily,couldn't have been easier to assemble and attaches securely. Our 5 month old daughter pulls herself up on it and it doesn't budge and just the other day we had a very large 18mo old boy at our house and he was pulling on it and it still didn't move.

I think there had been a previous version of this gate where a child had gotten their finger injured in it, but after inspecting the latching system thoroughly and even letting it slam shut on my own finger (it couldn't) I really can't see how anyone child or adult could be injured. So I'd say this version seems to have corrected whatever problem the older model had.

A tip for attaching it to a banister on one side, just velcro strap a board to the flat part of the banister so the pressure mounts have something to press against.

A note.... the gate will look like it's broken and won't close properly if you hold it up straight out of the box. It's the pressure put on the gate when it's mounted that ensures it closes properly.

I purchased two of these gates almost a year ago and they have held up very well, and would have given them 5 starts if it wasn't for the size of the gate opening. It's a bit narrow if you try to carry groceries in with you, you have to turn side ways to get through.
It is easily opened and closed with one hand, and swings in only one direction, so you may want to think about that when you install it.

The gate works well provided that your opening is less than 34 in or more than 37 in. In between lies the just barely works area. because for the gate to latch it requires pressure I almost ran out of screw length. I tried putting the extension on that came with it but that made it too large to fit in the opening. I had to put a 2 x 4 against the wall and screw it in to get the gate to work the way it was supposed to. Very disappointed given the reviews.

Nice gate however with a doorway opening of 35"-36" this does not work. The gate is 29" wide but with the 6" extension it is too wide to use the pressure mount as you need to allow another 1-2". Without extension, there is too much of a gap on the sides where a child could get stuck.

We have a number of baby gates in our homes, and this one is my least favorite. I would not choose it for an opening you use often, because it is narrow (my husband and I find ourselves turning sideways to get through it most of the time) and clumsy to maneuver through. I wish it would swing open both ways, that really was the deal breaker for me. I removed it from its first spot and put it in another spot we use less often, but it's still getting on my nerves. I hate how high the bottom bar is, we trip over it all the time. It's cheap, but I would put the money toward another better gate costing 50% more.

This is a very nice gate for the price. Its all metal except for the plastic latch....which is ok cause it is thick and sturdy. Installation was a snap and gate holds great. In the box you get a gate section, an extension if you have 3' doors and hardware. If you use only the gate section by itself, its rock solid. It could be a little more sturdy when using the extension but its not bad. Sure beats climbing over the wooden gates we use to have. Highly recommended. Oh yea, I forgot to mention....if when you get it out of the box and the gate latch will not reach the bar that it latches onto, don't worry. When you install and tighten the jam rods it will close up.

I was a little weirded out by all the reviews by dog-owners, because I bought this gate for my son and I was worried I wouldn't get an accurate review because dogs don't hold on to the top of the gate and rock it back and forth with all their might. My concerns were well-founded.

All the doorways in my house are a little too wide for the gate without the extension, but with the extension the gate doesn't fit. So, I'm left with a good 4 inches of the threaded screw part sticking out on either side, with only a small amount remaining inside the gate for stability. This poses a problem when my son climbs to a stand holding the gate and shakes it back and forth. It wobbles a bit, and even with the wall-mount hardware, it does move. I'm worried those big bolts will shear and allow the gate to fall, not to mention leave jagged metal edges.

I guess if you want a pet gate, this is a nice one. I like the walk-through door and haven't found it to be too narrow; nor have I found the bar on the bottom to be a tripping hazard. It really does need to be hardware-mounted to serve its purpose, so if yo live somewhere where you can't drill into the walls (like a rental) this gate is probably not for you.

I don't highly recommend it for people with rowdy boy toddlers.

This gate is simple to install and is very sturdy once put into the door frame. It even fits well into my doorway in an older house that is not perfectly square. One thing to note is that the gate door will fit perfectly into the latch once installed in a doorway, but not before! This space allows for the tension that holds the door in place to be generated. I'm very satisified with this purchase. Also the gate is easy to open and close with one hand with a little practice!

I am very pleased with the gate. Serves my purpose of keeping my 15months old out of the kitchen, and I love the fact that it comes with an extension for wider doorway. I am about to move to a new place and am sure I will be able to keep using this gate for a while... by the way I installed the gate two months ago without the need of screwing to the wall, only using the pressure made it safe enough... excellent quality material! Thanks a lot!

Easy to install, works well and it's safe. Purchased of the cheaper one from another company first but I had to return it because it did not work well.
