I wanted a pressure mounted gate that would fit a 61 5/8" opening to contain my 17 month old. I have purchased and tried several different gates and I like this one the best. I have 2 and am ordering 1 more.

Setting it up was easy- took only minutes. It is not different than any other pressure mounted gate with a door. You have to tighten the bottom and then tighten the top so that you leave only a small gap where the gate closes. The gate looks slightly croocked until it is installed.

The one hand opening is a little ackward at first cause you have to push a lever back then pull the handle up but all the adults are now able to use 1 hand to open it. If the handle isn't latched when closed my daughter can open it but as long as we remember to latch it, it keeps her put and I believe it is challenging enough that it will be quite some time before she is able to physically open the gate. It does not auto latch or close so you have to be diligent about doing that but it is very secure once closed. I do have 1 gate that is auto close/lock and while my daughter hasn't pushed through it, I feel that it is a matter of time before she is able to push through it, not gonna happen with this gate.

Most wide pressure mounted gates I have encountered only allow you to add 1 extension to each side of the gate so beware that you can't endlessly extend a gate to fit any opening. This gate is no different.

The description says it will fit openings up to 58" but if you go to the Regalo website, they sell 24" extensions for $24.99 so if you get two of those you can actually fit a max opening of 82" (base gate extends up to 34").

We did have all 3 extensions on one of our gates (you're not supposed to use more than 2) and it is sturdy enough that my daughter can't push through it but it does bow on one side where the two extensions are combined which makes getting it tight difficult and it wiggles when pulled. That's why the 24" extensions are nice so you don't have that problem.

We got this gate to use between the living room and dining room of our apartment, which is a 58" span. We rent, and therefore needed a pressure mounted gate to fit the span -- drilling into the door frame was not an option. This gate seems to do the trick. Without locking it, the door is easily opened with one hand; with the lock it's a little harder to do so but still possible with some practice. My son has just started pulling himself up to standing a few weeks ago, and now can walk laterally using the gate as support. Thus far the gate is staying put despite his best attempts. We'll see if it holds up as he gets stronger and more determined.

UPDATE: Yesterday, my son (now 11 months and starting to walk) demonstrated he can open the latch quite adeptly when it is not locked. With the lock engaged, he tries and tries, but ends up mad instead. So the lock may be sometimes hard to operate but it is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY with an older child. The pressure mounting has held despite his best efforts (he likes to hang from the top of the gate and try to scale it). The gate does move incrementally over time, so we've had to adjust it once or twice, but that's to be expected from a pressure mount.

He has managed to get his foot stuck once or twice between the bars where they curve slightly near the bottom. Getting stuck just got him mad but not at all hurt. Still a 5 star gate!

We installed the gate using tension only. We specifically purchased this gate because we did not want to have to screw into the wall. We followed the instructions, however when the gate is tight enough to the walls to not slide, the door becomes too tight. We need both hands to open it. I prefer the Summer Infant door mechanism. I think perhaps if we had used the cups that screw into the wall, we wouldn't have had to make the tension so tight and it would have opened with one hand. That said, it functions like it needs to, keeping our little one out of the kitchen while I'm cooking.

This Regalo gate is perfect for pets. I picked the tension kind because I didn't want to screw holes in the wall. If you have a child, you might need the screw in kind. I don't know how much weight the tension type could withstand. The open and close gate is very convenient and the sizes are somewhat adjustable.

After researching pressure-mounted gates for about two weeks I found this one. This gate has worked better than expected! I have used it now for over three months with no issues. I needed a gate that could with stand up to pretty wild kids and it has defiantly done the trick. It was super easy to set up, took me about 5 min total to put into my opening and has been just as easy to take down when we have people over. The pressure-mounting system allows me to use the gate without damaging my wall, however the gate also does come with the kit to wall mount this gate just in case you need extra security. The white finish actually looks really nice and not an eye sore. The safety lock on feature works great to keep my kids from opening the gate. For the price, features, durability and looks no question FIVE STARS!!! Would recommend.

Perfect gate for my kids....I have been using this gate for four months and its has been everything I expected and more.... The gate comes with pressure mount features and wall mounting features. I choose to use the pressure mounts and the gate is sturdy as a ROCK. I even caught my kids hanging on this gate several times and it has yet to really budge. The gate is extremely easy to set up. Just take it out of the box (gate may look slightly bent at first but part of the design) attach the extensions, add the (4) spindle rods to the end of each side and tighten. Took me literally less than 10 minutes from start to finish. I have already recommended this product to all of my friends. BEST GATE I HAVE EVER BOUGHT!

Very satisfied with the quality and functionality of this gate. We bought two of these to "box in" our living room and we are very happy with the purchase. Setting the gates up is a little awkward since the gate swings until you tighten the gate. Otherwise set up was easy and the units are very sturdy.

Easy enough to open for an adult but tricky for kids. I use it as a barrier between a playroom and laundry/cat litter box room. The only thing I should have noticed is the lower bar. We had to attach it a bit higher in the entryway for our cat to get under and we need to be careful not to trip but it's really not a big problem. Just something people should be aware of when buying it.

If you need to cover a wide span and don't want to permanently damage your walls (like me), then this is the gate for you. As others have said, any gate that uses pressure to lock in place won't be as sturdy as if you drilled it to your walls, however, this works perfectly for our 13 mo old and dog. Thanks to the other reviewers - they were right on!

I bought two of these gates to contain our new puppy. I don't want him getting downstairs or into the bedrooms yet, until he is fully house trained, and over his puppy chewing stage. Gates for wide openings were challenging to find. What I love about this gate is that it is easy to buy extension pieces to make it fit just about any size opening. The more extension pieces you have, the harder the initial install is, but it is worth it. I love the fact that it is tension mounted, rather than drilling holes into my walls. This is a temporary barrier, and I didn't want permanent damage. Once installed, the walk through gate is so easy to use, even my 6 year old niece quickly figured it out. Install was completed by my 15 year old, without using any instruction sheets. All he needed was an extra set of hands to hold the extensions in place until the tension rods were tight. Simple! Would definitely recommend to anyone with a large opening to span.
