I have had one of these for last 20 years. It very convenient. You can leave the flour on it, fold it up and put it in your freezer till the next time you use it. You just take it out put some flour on it and its cool so your pastry stay firm and not stick to it.

I needed a pastry cloth and rolling pin cover to make my great-grandmother's cookies. Little did I realize I'd be using this set every time I pull out my rolling pin.I am a seasoned cook (pardon the pun), but never used a rolling pin cover or pastry cloth before. I can't believe I've been baking all these years without it! It makes rolling things out soooo easy. I'm going to get two, just to keep them handy. The pastry cloth is quite large - I was able to roll out a pizza crust on the cloth with room to spare. The rolling pin cover should fit nearly all rolling pins. I found it to be a wee bit longer than my (great-grandmother's) rolling pin, so I just trimmed it a little. Get this product. It's inexpensive, works great, and as if that's not good enough, it's made in the USA.

Good Product,

I've used a pastry cloth and rolling pin cover for years until I finally wore mine out and needed a new one. There is nothing like cloth to help pastry roll out thin easily. This set is well-made and worked great the first time I used it. The cloth remained very stiff after washing, though, and I had to iron it to get the wrinkles out. (Can't roll pastry on wrinkles.) It may take several washings to get the stiffness out.

Pie Crust,
This review is from: Regency Pastry Cloth & Rolling Pin Cover Set (Kitchen)
I have looked for this product for quite sometime. I love it... My family loves homemade everything including pot pies, chicken and dumplings and especially fruit pies. I hated making them before I found this. Now I make my grandsons pie crust cookies almost every weekend.. They love it!

My mother made perfect pie crusts--she always used a pastry cloth and rolling pin sleeve--for years I tried to duplicate her crust but failed miserably each time. Even store bought crusts would stick to my rolling pin, if I tried using puff pastry I ended up with sticky messes that went right into the garbage. After all these years I finally put 2 and 2 together and realized it was the pastry cloth and rolling pin sleeve that helped make my mother's crusts so wonderful. I have used it twice and each time I rolled out perfect puff pastry sheets and shells--no sticking, no mess. The sky is the limit for me now. Thanks Mom!

A piece of krap,

Sorry, but I totally disagree with all of the 5-star reviews on this piece of worthless krap. I'm probably just prejudiced because I'm used to a much higher quality pastry cloth (that's no longer available). For 34 years I've had an Aunt Chick's pastry cloth. It's exceptionally heavy, large (20" x 26"), and actually hemmed (none of these serged edges that are so common today).I could have gone down to my local fabric store and bought the same light-weight canvas that this Regency cloth is made of. It's nothing exceptional - and that's what I *thought* I was buying based on all of the 5-star reviews...something exceptional. At the same time that I purchased this cloth, I also purchased another R & M Heavyweight Pastry Cloth and Rolling Pin Cover Set (http://www.amazon.com/Heavyweight-Pastry-Cloth-Rolling-Cover/dp/B001TM9YTQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1294335365&sr=8-2) and the difference between them is instantly obvious. Although the R & M cloth still doesn't measure up to my old Aunt Chick's cloth, it's a much better quality than the Regency. It's more tightly-woven and the threads are finer (ergo, less chance of your dough sticking to the cloth if properly floured). Also, although it says that this cloth is 20 x 24, it's only 19.5" x 23.5" (whereas the R & M one actually IS 20 x 24). That may not be of any significance for others, but for me it makes quite a difference as there's less space to work on. I wanted to "blame" this on the Regency possibly being made in China. Alas! It's made in the U.S.A. (Dallas?!) It's going back to Amazon today.

I'm from a family of cooks not bakers so I've never even heard of a pastry cloth! But I love kitchen gadgets and came across this product while just browsing. I decided to give it a try and now I can't imagine how to do without it. Making a really wet& sticky dough for Popeye's biscuit use to take me forever. Now I've cut down my prep. time 75% and my frustration level down 100%. The biscuit were also bigger using the pastry cloth because I didn't lose any dough that use to stick to my work surfaces.Used it to roll a pumpkin cake log. Some of the cake stuck to the cloth because I didn't put enough powdered sugar on it (on purpose), and I let it cool off rolled up in the pastry cloth before I made my filling. I stuck the cloth in warm water and it was really easy to rinse out and clean. I really didn't even soak it first. The only problem was I still had to scrub off some cloth fuzz balls, but it really was easy to do. I'm assuming that it had fuzz balls because it was the first time I cleaned it. The cloth is so big that I folded the cloth in half and floured one side to make the biscuits. Then I folded the cloth in the opposite direction and sprinkled powdered sugar on it for the pumpkin roll. The cloth fold in half was still big enough and sturdy enough that I could just cover my 10" x 15" jellyroll pan and easily flip the cake over. I like that it's made in the USA. The pastry cloth (20" x 24") is made out of a canvas-like material & has sewn edges. I haven't used the rolling pin cover yet, but it seems to be made out of a stretchy kind of knit. The knit reminds me of the material used by my hospital to make a hat for my newborn babies 19+ years ago. I haven't tried pie crusts either, but I can't imagine that it would be harder than working with the super sticky Popeye dough. At last, I think I'll be able to judge different crust recipes based on the recipe itself, rather than me over working the dough. (I've used same recipes more than once and still ended up with different results so it wasn't the recipe that was bad). SO inexpensive for such a super handy product! Knowing how much easier it made things for me, I would have willing paid more for it and gotten it years ago!

Great customer service from the Handy House! Due to a packaging snag, my order came without a rolling pin cover, but they shipped out another promptly when I let them know. Both the cloth and pin cover are of great quality, and the cloth is well hemmed. I used it for my Christmas cookies as soon as I got it, and they both worked great!

The first time I've actually enjoyed rolling out cookie dough,

I normally do everything I can to avoid rolled cookie dough because it almost always turns into a sticky mess for me. But every few years, I get amnesia and forget how traumatic it was last time. This year I didn't completely forget the past messes, but the cookie cutters were calling to me.So I went in search of something that would keep me from scraping dough from my board and I stumbled upon this. It's great...most of the flour goes into the cloth so the dough doesn't get tough, and amazingly it also doesn't end up all over the table. The cloth just holds the flour and the dough doesn't stick. The only small gripe I have with this set is the rolling pin sock did keep stretching as I used it, and since mind has stationary handles on both ends, it was getting tangled up on the axel as it stretched wider than the pin itself. But that's not worth a whole star knock - it makes such a difference to have this set that I'm sure I'll roll out more cookies and pie crusts than ever! |
