Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Comprising 15 winning entries from Regency Press's first short story contest, this diverse collection runs the gamut from the intriguingly offbeat to the elegantly traditional and has something for just about every Regency taste. Brief vignettes share the pages with longer, more complex stories, and plots can be comfortably predictable, slightly unconventional, or livened up with a twist worthy of de Maupassant. Warm and romantic, dark and forbidding, chillingly mysterious, gently magical, or surprisingly realistic, these stories vary in both style and quality; and while some are more worthy than others, taken as a whole they provide an interesting and occasionally unusual view of the period. Of particular note are Sarah Anne Starr's memorable "Milady's Murderer" and Susan McDuffie's top-scoring epistolary story, "An Unusual Correspondence." A charming, uncommon collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun, laughed out loud!, April 20, 2000
This review is from: A Regency Sampler (Paperback)
What a great bonus to see a new publishing company on the market dedciated to this much under-rated genre - Regency fiction - and what a great set of writers to promote.

This is a collection of award winning short stories, and it shows they sparkle with the wit and verve that defines this genre.

There is a great deal of variety in subject and length of stories, but they all made wonderful reading some were sweet and there are some definite stars amongst the new writers show casing their works

If you haven't read Regency Fiction before - this is a great place to start - and if you are a Regency Fiction fan, this is a must buy.

This is a wonderful collection of delightful Regency short stories. The quality is high all the way through. I loved reading the new authors and look forward to reading more of their work in subsequent Regency Press publication.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth buying..., July 19, 2001
This review is from: A Regency Sampler (Paperback)
I have bought three books from the Regency Press output, and I have to say that this is the best value of them all (several magnificent stories for the price of one Regency!). The stories range from a chilling mystery to several delightful romps. Strongly recommended for those who love Regency romances.
