Editorial Reviews

From the Director

Baby Bomb – Episode 1 It’s a race against time to identify the cause of a deadly virus, spreading rapidly and headed straight for the city. It’s up to NorBAC to identify patient zero and contain the outbreak. David must also deal with the unexpected arrival of his teenage daughter Lilith (Ellen Page). Spare Parts – Episode 2 Lilith befriends Mick, who is dying and desperate for David to help him discover if he really is a clone and possibly save his life. Meanwhile, NorBAC has managed to locate patient zero and must proceed with the interrogations at “Hazmat City”. Was this an act of Bioterrorism? The Face of God – Episode 3 Mick turns to Lilith, who helps him steal evidence from the scientist who apparently cloned him, his own father. Meanwhile, Caroline suggests that Hira has possible terrorist links and shuts her out of NorBAC. Prions – Episode 4 NorBAC investigates an outbreak of brain wasting prion disease (mad cow) in humans. The victims are spread out across North America. The most surprising is a 5 year old girl, since the disease normally takes 7 years to show. David suspects his old friend Danny, a major league hockey player, has undergone a process to have himself genetically modified. The Oldest Virus – Episode 5 As the search continues for the source of the deadly prions, NorBAC zeros in on a large agribusiness they suspect of selling infected chickens. David tries to convince Danny to stop gene therapy. Caroline insists that David interview Jill Langston for the vacated virologist position at NorBAC.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't believe they have it in the UK and not in the US or Canada, April 5, 2008
This is really frustrating. It's in boxed sets in PAL television format in the UK, but I haven't seen evidence that it's been released in North America.

Given that it originates in Canada, all I can figure is that they don't want to erode syndication revenue by releasing it on this side of the pond. Then again, I've only heard of Six Million Dollar Man DVDs in the UK as well.

Oh, the vagaries of content licensing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story Lines, Most Realistic Science, August 25, 2008
By
Being a scientist in a molecular medicine lab myself, I enjoy the great realism of the show - as well as the sophisticated storytelling. I have so far only watched the first season, and I am getting the second one on DVD from Amazon.de. Weirdly enough, you can get the DVD in England and Germany but neither in Canada nor the United States, and my colleagues here in the US have not even heard of this TV Series at all!
Anyhow, as I said, you can get the DVD from Amazon in Germany, where it costs 44 Euros incl. shipping and taxes, or about $65 at the current exchange rate. This may seem steep, on the other hand, you get 4 DVDs. Since they are region code 2, you need a DVD player that you can unlock, so it will be able to play DVDs from regions other than 1 (in the US), e.g. a Philips DVP642, which can be unlocked by typing in the right code on the remote (the actual code can be found on the internet).
With this series, it's well worth the effort!

Based on scientific research going on today the stories to illustrate pandemics and stem cell work by the medical research community.
The characters are believable.
