Most Helpful Customer Reviews

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By Peter P. Fuchs on April 6, 2013
Ironically, the Bach -oriented Fantasia and Fugue that open this fine CD could not sound more modernist and edgy. I hate to put it so simply, but there is such a vast wasteland of boring organ music available, and fawned over incomprehensibly by devotees, that a somewhat radical take on a crazy Catholic ("Catholic to his fingertips" say the liner notes) like Reger is very welcome.......because it is the opposite of dull. No wonder Reger is supposed to have had a number of dramatic mental episodes, for his organ writing suggests it in a genius way At least he wrote some organ music which kind of evokes it seriously as a thorny issue. All thanks to the organist Haas here, who makes such delectation possible. Avery savvy player, indeed.
