5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Representation of a Brilliant Artiste's Work, September 30, 2005

This review is from: Reggae Anthology: Music Is the Rod (Audio CD)
This is a great album. The 2-disc set gives a whopping 36 (22+14) of the late Garnett Silk's hits. All the songs are really big hits. Garnett was one of the most talented entertainers Jamaica has ever produced. His songs are both enlightning and inspiring. The tracks are also very well written, well produced, and, while being mainly conscious songs, the set gives the listener the vibe to rock while meditating on the remarkable, well put togehter lyrics.

As far as favorites go, I must say that the whole album is enjoyable. My favorites include, Splashing Dashing, Lord Watch Over our Shoulders, Mama, Kingly Character, Hello Mama Africa, Nothing Can Devide Us, Oh Me Oh My, It's Growing, Commitment, Love is the Answer, See Bimbo Ya, Everything I've Got (personal favorite), Place in Your Heart, Disadvantaged, Fight Back, Complain, Fill Us Up With Your Mercy, Man Is Just A Man, Zion in a Vision, Spread The Love, and Singing for the People.

There is also an interview at the end of disc 2 which allows the lister to learn about the singer from the singer himself.

This is a great buy for any music lover. All fans of the late artiste will also love this album. I highly recommend it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic amongst the best !!, August 21, 2006
This review is from: Reggae Anthology: Music Is the Rod (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful album that is very much enjoyed by my family and I. You dont have to be Jamacian or Rasta to enjoy this album or his message. If you love a positive message, God, and great beats, then this album is with out a doubt for you ! Garnet Silk is surely missed and in my opinion one of the greatest artists and his gifts to music are unforgetable. This album includes ALL his hits (only 1 or 2 are missing), and this is a MUST HAVE for any reggae fan. I would buy this album twice, I highly recommend it.

This album is great. Some of it overlaps the 'Definitive Garnet Silk' double disc set, but this album has most of Garnet's best and latest songs. The album includes alot of info on Garnet and his family in the liner notes.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST reggae singers I've heard, September 23, 2006
This review is from: Reggae Anthology: Music Is the Rod (Audio CD)
Well, I'm from Kingston city Jamaica, and we don't stop short to give Garnett Silk much respect out there. He died trying to save his mom from his burning house. He never made it out of the house. I believe it was arson because Garnett, though he was a Rasta, sang a lot about Jesus Christ - and even has a song called Christian Soldiers. Rasta don't believe in Christ as the messiah, so I believe they burn down his house because he giving Rasta bad name. Much like when Muslims shot Malcolm X.

But everything about Garnett was peace, and this album definitely captures the depths of his soul. Garnett had an amazing voice that cut through all his instrumentals and went straight into a man's heart. And his melodies are very stylish and bold. Nobody has a style like Garnett! no reggae artiste. He was much more contemporary than Bob Marley, and vocally, he was more powerful and able a singer that Bob. He stood out on the big sound systems in dancehalls back home too, because of that edge he had.

One of the best songwriters across all genres, I think Garnett Silk will remain timeless as he boldly declares the Words of God. Listen to the man!
