4.0 out of 5 stars it's okay..., August 30, 2000

First, I start with saying that the whole Reggae Gold serie is a pretty good one, and this '2000' version is no exception to the rule. Good choice of songs, good variety. But my opinion is, that these albums are meant for the people who listen to dancehall once and a while. Because people who collect a lot of dancehall music, and buy the diverse riddim-albums also, will find out that the most songs on this CD will already be in their music-collection. For these people, only the extra CD with the Adonai remixes will be really interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reggae for the new millneum...............blazing!, June 27, 2000

This new one from The reggae gold series is back to where it first started when it first came out....on top. Reggae gold 999 lost me for a while because a lot of the songs were either on something else or I didn't like it. This one? .....lets just say you might as well put this on repeat . Songs Like "Hot girl today" from vegas and sean paul and "Look" from buju get the first cd off to a good start. One cd is full of dancehall rythems while the otehr cd is a more concious laid back cd. If you never heard of the reggae gold series then this is a good place to start. I don't know how they will top this cd but they always find a way to do it.

Check this out and see what the hype is about....get it!

This album is one of the best compilations Ive heard in a while. Reggae Gold be hittin it off. Between the rugged sounds of Bounty Killa and the sweet music of Beres Hammond, it has a little of everything. And if ya get the second CD wit it, it is a true sound system style mix.

The VP record company has done it again! Reggae Gold 2000 is by far the best one! Personally, I found this compilation much better than '99. The second disc with the songs mixed by Adonai is good for dancing.GET DAT ALBUM!

4.0 out of 5 stars Reggae Gold is Back, June 18, 2000

This review is from: Reggae Gold 2000 (Audio CD)
After experiencing the very first album in this compilation series years ago I knew the series was truly golden. Then I started to believe that after a few years the people at VPs' Records had lost their flavor, but in 1999 signs of life again emerged in Reggae Gold 1999 and has proven with this album, Reggae Gold 2000 that they are some what the best at what they do.

Tract #1 Psalm 23 with Buju Banton took some getting use to I had to play it a few times then I got hooked. But Down By the River has the group Morgan Heritage in top form. With that "SILK LIKE VOICE", the groups' harmony has that distinct flavor that has given reggae music the solid foundation that it has achieved over the years. Beris Hammond "They're Gonna Talk" is truly a classic example of the kind of artist Beris is, being able to year after year record these monster hits, I believe he is in a class by himself, and it performers like him that has made this album and the series so magnificent. "Stalag Y2K", definately has brought back some memories of the good old days with performers like the late great Tenor Saw and General Echo who both met their untimely death while in the peak of their careers.

This album has a little bit of something for everyone, Wayne Wonder, the rising stars in Madd Anju and Sean Paul. But the Album would not be complete unless there was some Buju Banton, Lexus who appears twice on and Capleton not blazing any fire this time but something for the ladies to feel good about.

This albun is an excellent addition to any new or seasoned reggae fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars CD #2 Is Disappointing, January 20, 2001
This review is from: Reggae Gold 2000 (Audio CD)
CD #1 is a great CD, songs like "Hot Gal Today" (#4) and quite a few others on Disc #1 make the CD worth buying. Disc #2, however, was quite disappointing to me. I expected "dance" remixes to the tracks on Disc #1. Actually it turns out that distinguishing between one song and another on Disc #2 is a challenge in itself. The same beat remains constant throughout the disc, making it monotonous to listen to. Good music if you can't fall asleep or something, but beware, may cause headaches. If you are fimiliar with some of the artists on Disc #1 then by all means purchase this CD because Disc #1 is a fine CD, with many songs that can be listened to over and over again. Don't expect too much from Disc #2 however...
