4.0 out of 5 stars Good variety but missing something
Overall, I think this is a good album. BUT, I think the Reggae Gold's of a few years back were a bit more cutting-edge. This cd has a few too many songs and beats that have been out for a while. I remember a few years back when "Just Gimmie the Light" was on the Reggae Gold series almost a year before the song got widespread recognition. I don't think there are any of...

I find it an odd coincidence that so many of the positive comments here are made on the same date. I realize the reason I've never heard of any of these artists is because their music isn't any good. You're better off getting Dancehall Nice Again 2005.

I don't think there are any of those songs on this one.

I would like to praise a few of the tracks in order from good to great. Track 2: King of the Dancehall is good but it has been out for a few months (I would have really liked to see his fresher release 'Imagination' featuring Devonte). Track 5: 'Or Wah' is good (Luv Capleton). Track 12: 'Lava Ground' shows the excellent talent of newcomer I Wayne. Track 14: 'Superior' by Gentleman shows his impressive skill.

Finally, my favorite two tracks!

Track 8: 'Longing For' is Jah Cure's best song to date(i.m.h.o) and has been released on Reggae Hits 34(which is a better collection of songs for 2005).

***Track 13: 'Hail to the King' by Fantan Mojah impressed me the most! THE BEST NEW ARTIST ON THE REGGAE SCENE!! He has another cut called 'Hungry' on Reggae Hits 34 that is also an amazing song. Keep your eyes on this artist.***

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Refreshing, July 2, 2005
This one is a masterpiece. I found out they were giving away 4 free downloads of this song at myspace/reggaegold. after I got my 4 songs for free, I just had to get the whole album. The best thing I did music wise this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a gem, January 29, 2006
This CD was a definite reggae/dancehall classic. I can't wait for the full release for 18 Karat Reggae Gold 2006. The digital downloads are out already and they are available for free downloads at www.myspace.com/tcooo

5.0 out of 5 stars Vineyard is the best new reggae artist, June 11, 2005
If you have not heard the song 'Stolen Legacy' by Vineyard, I would recommend buying this CD just for that song. The song is a classic and reminds me of Bob Marley's 'Old Pirates'. Oh yea, Afayah, Zeego Zaro and Stapler are pretty good too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mostly Potential, One Hit Song (2 Reggae Golds?), May 24, 2005
If you're looking for the Reggae Gold with artists Beenie Man, Capleton, Jah Cure, I Wayne, etc. THIS IS NOT THE REGGAE GOLD 2005 FROM VP RECORDS!

These artists all have an interesting sound. The problem is only one of them seems to have what it takes for "Gold" - that is Vineyard coming through with "Stolen Legacy". Change is good, but this a complete overhaul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not the normal status quo, May 3, 2005
I love listening to great new artists so this was right up my ally. If you are someone who like the same old thing like Bounty, Beenie, Shaggy and Sean Paul then yo should probably stay away from this one. Capleton is the only old artists that does anything on this one. Everyone else is pretty new but EXCELLENT!

Its nice to give new artists a chance to shine, but in this case it doesn't work. I gave it one star for one good song - "Stolen Legacy" by Vineyard. The rest just leaves you feeling disappointed. Now I have to find a new summer mix album. Maybe 'Strictly the Best 33'?

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this CD!!!, April 16, 2005
I bought this CD thinking I was continuing my Reggae Gold collection; this one goes in the trash. If you are a die hard Reggae/Dancehall fan like I am (if you haven't guessed by now mi a yardie)you will absolutely hate this CD. I would have given it a lower rating if they had it.

This review is from: Reggae Gold 2005 (Audio CD)
Another Reggae Gold with nothing but old songs. Every song on the CD is over a year old. Come on VP give us somethig fresh and new. This formula is old, stale and boring. For Reggae fans who like hot, fresh new music I recommend you check out '18 Karat Reggae Gold' it is a lot hotter. Reggae Gold is like stale bread, 18 Karat Reggae Gold is hot fresh bread from the oven.
