This review is from: Reggae Hitsound (Audio CD)
A great single CD readying the listener for more...4 for sound 5 for music.
The sound quality is OK considering the obvious studio conditions existing at the time capturing undoubtedly one of the SKA masters...Trojan is a solid company and all in all an attractive import..there are other compilations out there luckily..I recall when the 45 single hit the radio waves, Dekker's The Israelites sounded like a Jamaican version of Wooly Bully..comical and strange but rhythmic and intense..in that spirit was Soul Makossa by Cameroon's Manu Dibango, another blast away from US & UK shores.
Jimmy Cliff somehow brought this sweet singer to attention on his Harder To Come movie as well as Desmond's popularity with the 2 tone "movement"in the days of post-punk and the days of the Clash and English Beat and The Specials.
You will not be disappointed in the Ska,steady rhythms with backbeat and feel of the selections presented here.
They are all leepers.
You can feel the palm trees and heat.
