4.0 out of 5 stars A very good book..., December 14, 1996
By A Customer
This book was a very logical and entertaining follow-up to the white regiment which was also a very good read. The chararcters were mainly preset from the preceding book, but they were expanded and made more real in this book. The T'sel is fascinating to me, and I can't get enough of it. I really would love to see this series contiuned. The Kalif's War was also extremely interesting, giving the political side of war and running a nation/world/empire. I can't wait for the next book in this fantastic universe from John Dalmas

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, July 29, 2010

I found this book very entertaining. I had read some of the T'swa stories many years ago and enjoyed them.
The book arrived on time and was in good shape. I have bought many books from Amazon and have had no bad experiences
I would deal with this vender again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dalmas doesn't get the recognition he deserves, April 7, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the third installment in the five-volume "Regiment" saga, and the direct sequel in action to _The White Regiment._ The "White T'swa" -- Iryalans trained by the real T'swi -- have graduated and been sent out on their first contract to a world where an arrogant absolute monarch has invaded a much smaller neighbor. (Smolen, the smaller country, has sympathizers around the world and one of these has taken the contract on their behalf.) The situation is ready-made for the mercenaries' special skills in small-unit actions and Col. Romlar and his troopers are having an increasingly important impact on events -- when the aforesaid monarch hires his own T'swa regiment. Then things begin to get interesting as the two groups of "playmates" join in joyful battle. There are numerous subplots involving individuals, including two in which infiltrators from each side stalk the leaders of the other side. It's a nice wrap-up, and the last chapter will leave you ready to grab the next volume. Dalmas's style is straightforward and he's sufficiently knowledgeable in tactics to completely hold your interest.
