5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!
This CD swings, it rocks and it is technically brilliant. From the first track," I wann talk to you," to the last note of "Don't explain," this CD is utterly satisfying to listen. 3.0 out of 5 stars It's good, but ...
I like this CD, but some cuts (e.g., I Wanna Talk to You) sound to me more like urban pop than jazz--very good urban pop, but UP nonetheless. Regina Carter is extremely talented, and I hope she will move toward the jazz side of things--like the cuts I've heard from the RC/Kenny Barron CD Freefall.

This CD swings, it rocks and it is technically brilliant. From the first track," I wann talk to you," to the last note of "Don't explain," this CD is utterly satisfying to listen. Regina Carter not only employs her fiery violin but also a whole slew of back up instruments like the african drum djembe on track #5. She seems to have an acute awareness of what is great music, what is beautiful jazz and she is so so so talented.
It is easy to like the first track and the more familiar like Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody." (ever thought I would hear this song covered in violin- excellent!) But the slower, more pensive numbers like "When I hear Your Name" appeals to one's romantic leanings. And it also gives one a chance to appreciate the quiteness of her violin. Well, enough said, Regina Carter is a pleasure to listen to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classically trained JAZZ violin, April 21, 2009

I first became aware of Regina Carter while dining at B Smith's restaurant long ago. She was in the city and dropped in to see B when her CD `Something for Grace' was about to drop. I was simply floored that there was even such a thing as a JAZZ violin player. My first thought was, `A JAZZ violin? I WANT THAT!!! GIVE ME THAT!!!' and I have never been disappointed yet. I recently found the 1995 CD `Regina Carter' on Amazon and I am simply amazed by the soulful opening track `I Wanna Talk To You'. Remember, THIS IS NOT YOUR GRANDMA'S VIOLIN. Also noteworthy are: the old Chaka Khan tune `Ain't Nobody', as well as the spiritually uplifting `He'll See You Through', and the almost conversational `Don't Explain'. This CD is a must have for all lovers of violin.

I am a Regina fan from her Detroit Straight Ahead and Lyman Woodard days. She really has progressed in her talent and beauty and we want her back on tour or to stay in Detroit.
