5.0 out of 5 stars Regina in the Sun- A Joyfully Recommended Title, May 16, 2008
Regina is an Unborn Vampire seeking sanctuary in a pub for Trueblood Vampires. She wants to protect her family from the Shadow Wolves and the Sariel family might be her only hope.

Zander Sariel is the purest of the pure and owner of the Ye Olde Haven Pub. When Regina, wounded, stumbles into the pub, he knows he must do whatever it takes to save this woman, even if it goes against everything he was born to be.

Can the two come together and stop the extinction of the Vampire race? Will their love destroy them or make them stronger?

Regina in the Sun is a wonderful twist on the vampire myth and R.G. Alexander is a born storyteller. Ms. Alexander pulls such emotion out of me with just a few words that I can go from joyously happy to heart wrenchingly sad in a matter of minutes. Regina in the Sun has such heart that I can feel the words pulsing with every beat.

Regina is strong, yet fragile, and Zander is the ultimate alpha male. When the two come together and Zander realizes that Regina is the one for him, he'll do what it takes to convince her and the rest of the vampires.

I am Joyfully Recommending Regina in the Sun because it is so passionate and raw, and I will be waiting with bated breath for book two.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Sensual and Dark World, November 2, 2010

~* 3.5 Stars *~
Regina is Unborn, a vampire made, and as such she's scorned and hated by the Trueblood. Still, she risks everything, even death from a wound inflicted by dark magic, to make it to Sanctuary and the Sariel family. The Sariels are a powerful and respected bloodline that wear the mantle of clan Mediator, a position of respect and authority. Regina has to warn the Mediator about the return of an old and feared enemy, Loups De L'Hombre, the Shadow Wolves before they can begin their carnage. Shapeshifters twisted by the ancient and evil magics they wield, they are a formidable foe long since thought extinct. She must get to Sanctuary to warn others and get help, as the Shadow Wolves will first roll right over Reggie's Deva Clan, a clan of misfit and shunned Unborn but the only family Regina has left, and they will leave nothing alive in their wake.

Reaching Sanctuary gains Reggie more than she'd ever dreamed, and she's stunned when Mediator and scion of Sariel family, Zander Sariel, takes her blood as he offers his in an effort to save her life...and finds his grathita. His blood-bound mate. But there are repercussions to the purest line of Trueblood taking an Unborn mate. Repercussions that may lead to the death of them all.

With a highly imaginative, complex, original, and creative mythos as the solid base for this erotic paranormal romance, R.G. Alexander kicks off her Children of the Goddess series with a smokin' hot explosion of sensuality, emotion, and story. Regina in the Sun is steeped in vampire, human, and werewolf history, ripe with a depth of exposition and magical creationism that I've never seen rivaled in a less mainstream novel. There is a weight and texture to the tales told of the origins of species and characters here that add flavor and lend a unique and much appreciated sense of realism within the framework of the book.

The characters are likable and are imbued with a meaty depth of personality, and while Regina and Zander are heroine and hero, a strong stable of fully formed secondary and ancillary characters are also well represented. I enjoyed Regina and her sense of independence and fiery spirit and appreciate how Alexander blended the perfect amount of vulnerability and yearning into her to keep her grounded and real. Zander is noble, strong, and proud - and insanely devoted to the one woman he would do anything for. His brother Lux was fun...and wow - sizzling to the extreme, there, and even Liz and Nicolette and Arygon, while briefly featured, felt surprisingly three dimensional and organic to the story and world.

My issues with the book started to pop up in relation to the plot and the pacing, which gave me some problems. Admittedly, I wasn't expecting such fantastic world building and mythos, but once I got that, I wanted to be equally wowed by the plot and execution of the conflict of the story arc and unfortunately, I just wasn't. Perhaps a bit too much time had been invested into the mythos as Alexander built her world for the series, or maybe there was a little too much attention paid to the sexual encounters (I'd argue against that one, honestly, because...yum). Frankly, though, I'm not buying either of those as the reason. I just don't think the book was long enough at 200 pages to do it all and do it all well, and that's a real shame because Alexander has definitely proven herself capable of some pretty impressive writing.

Instead of a well-drawn and tightly paced buildup and execution of the conflict plot arc, it was only touched on here and there through the book, and at the height of battle was so quickly commenced and perfunctorily concluded that I was left feeling a little agog. The building blocks were all there in this book for a brilliant opening salvo on the paranormal romance genre, but it needed around 100 more pages to allow for a more thorough development of the antagonist, the threat he posed, and battle to reach that goal. And there could have been more depth and time given to the development of the relationship between Regina and Zander. I'm not saying there wasn't enough, but it did feel rushed in places, with some random jumps in time and some issues with transitions which could have been easily resolved by adding some length to the novel.

I thoroughly enjoyed Regina in the Sun, don't misunderstand me. In truth, the issues I have with the book have little or nothing to do with what I've read. The problem is my disappointment over what I didn't read. It was good - a very solid read. It could have, though, been exceptional.

Warning: This book contains sumptuously sexy scenes of explicit sex, unconventional sex, voyeurism, and a M/M/F menage a trois, and may offend sensitive readers.

Book one of the "children of the goddess" series, this was a pretty good read. The plot line is fairly intricate considering it serves as more of a backdrop to the romance. Certainly sets us up for many books to come.

The couple presented are strong and sexy and make a good starting point. While I enjoyed their story, there are certainly hints at more interesting romances ahead! Regina herself is a great character- instantly likeable and strong. Zander makes a good counter point to Regina's potential volitility as the stalwart leader.

Over all- colorful world, great characters, lots of potential for future fun and this couple is HOT, sexy and in the end very stable in their romantic development- though it did happen a bit fast. This is explained by the mythology in their version of reality, but I can't help but feel it was still a little artificial.

All in all though, I enjoyed it.

This review is from: Regina in the Sun (Children of the Goddess) (Paperback)
Pretty silly story, and the sex scenes are dull and dry. All I can say about it is that I got what I 'paid' for it, which is nothing. It's stick figure sex for people who don't expect much in their erotica; like for it to actually be hot and sexy, which it's not...

4.0 out of 5 stars Regina in the Sun by R.G. Alexander, August 23, 2009

This review is from: Regina in the Sun (Children of the Goddess) (Paperback)
"Regina in the Sun" is the opening book of another very interesting erotic paranormal series by R.G. Alexander. With all the werewolves, vampires, demons, etc flooding the shelves today, I was pleased that Alexander's brand of paranormal critters had enough differences to make them stand out from the rest. I've already ordered book two and will be curious to see where the plot goes.

Regina is an Unborn vampire, the offspring of a natural vampire and a human, which makes her the lowest caste of vampire. Yet when her clan of outcast Unborns is threatened by a Shadow Wolf, she heads for the Trueblood vamp who befriended her mother and pleads sanctuary. Surely the news of the reappearance of the Truebloods ancient enemy, a Shadow Wolf, will grant her an audience?

Zander is a Trueblood, and not just any Trueblood either. He's from their purest and most powerful line. That's why he's their Mediator, keeping peace amongst all the Trueblood clans. From the moment he first sees Regina, she draws him to her and he quickly figures out that she's his bloodbound mate and that's something held in awe and honor by all vampires. Yet it seems one of the Truebloods is working WITH their ancient enemy and now Zander will have to fight tradition and an unknown traitor to keep Regina alive and convince HER to stay with him.

Very hot, very well plotted and executed. There's enough differences in R.G. Alexander's new series to keep it fresh in my mind. The book ends with closure and yet there's also teasers regarding characters for (I hope) the next book. I never know whether to be excited or groan when I find yet another new series to read (like I don't have enough already), but now I MUST read the next to find out for sure if I'm hooked.

For the genre (ie, trashynovelw/vampire&lotsofsex) this is a fun read. But I really don't understand the 5stars that have been given. Maybe I'm not getting the ratings system right. I admit that I give 4 & 5 stars for books that I have merely enjoyed...not everything has to be DFW...but this book is just a bunch of pulpy fun. This is the "Twilight" for those of us who don't have to worry about the age of consent. Nuff said.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Price and Plenty of Fun !!! xxx =) so yummy!!, April 6, 2010
*NO SPOILERS*.... just a review.
"Regina in the Sun" was such a great read. I was impressed by the complex plot considering this is erotica. It wasn't a simple and basic male pursues female comes save her and makes love to her end of the story book. The characters managed to evolve through out the book. Regina was multi dimensional, not just the typical silly girl or one BIG horney tramp. Zander was not the usual overly confident/over baring alpha. A relationship and excellent world building does exist in this novel. That's not to say the sex scenes aren't at the forefront. Ms. Alexander delivered several scenes that managed to hit plenty of "fetishes"/"turn ons" and didn't just limit her talent to one area EX :Spanking over and over throughout the whole book. She kept me guessing and that was refreshing.

3.0 out of 5 stars hmm, July 26, 2010
This is a story about an unborn vamp named Regina. She was born a human gypsy with the ability to read people. She was turned and after a couple centuries finds herself running for her and her clans life. She finally makes it to safe haven and turns out to find that she is mated as a grathita. With the Grey Wolf still wanting to capture her and her mate wanting to protect her they must face some trials.

This book was decently written. I didn't actually like the name Regina. I don't know why, but I didn't feel like it fit very well. I like the name, but I don't know. I also didn't like that she kept getting called Regina, mine. It was repetitive and lacked luster. None the less, the story was pretty good. The chracters were nice but the only two you really got to know would be Regina and her mate (or vice versa if he says it) Zander. Next would be Lux, but beyond that the others are more of a hit and miss thing. I basically lacked luster but was a light and easy read. Maybe the next one will be better.

I liked this book for the most part. It, in my opinion, doesn't have the appeal of say Twilight or Harry Potter, but it was interesting and a quick read. The sex was erotic, but not anymore than some romance books I've read.
