The information contained in the Regional Atlas is based on paleo-pathological examination of over four thousand complete or nearly complete skeletons from archaeological sites in the Great Plains, Chile, Easter Island, northeastern United States, eight historic cemeteries (five from Louisiana and one each from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.), War of 1812 and Civil War soldiers, and approximately one hundred forensic cases.
