Regional Geography of the United States and Canada (3rd Edition) is a well written text, aimed at the undergraduate level (primarily upper division). The material is presented in a readable format, using maps, illustrations and pictures when necessary to convey a point. This book focuses on landscape appreciation of the regional geography of the United States and Canada. He emphasizes the description and interpretation of North American landscapes, including their development. It covers such topics as: the North American continent; the physical environment; population; cities; regions; the Atlantic Northeast; French Canada; megalopolis; the Appalachians and Ozarks; the inland South; the Southeastern coast; the Heartland; the Great Plains and prairies; the Rocky Mountains; the Intermontane West; the California region; the Hawaiian Islands; the North Pacific coast; the Boreal Forest; and the Arctic. Of the five different college textbooks on the market that focus on the geography of the United States and Canada, this is by far one of the better texts.

If you just want to understand the factual information about the geographic regions of the U.S. and Canada - with a number of interesting sections that focus on areas of special interest, and without a lot of excess political correctness and environmental hype - than this is the book for you.

Covers a lot of information about all the different regions. It has a lot about what the geography is used for (types of industry, populations, etc.). Speaks of each regions strengths and weaknesses. I got an 'A' in the class I bought the book for, so it did it's job!

This book was purchased for a class on the geography of North America and was very complete for what it covered. I thought it was well written and very logical in its layout. I highly recommend it and understand that it is also regarded as the standard in its field.

A required book for school, it leaves a little to be desired. The writer is obviously from a huge metropolitan area, where population seems to be factor he is most interested in evaluating. If a region has no population, they are apparently not worth more than a few pages.
