5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS ALBUM, March 7, 2008
By
This review is from: Regleman (Dig) (Audio CD)
RÉGLÉMAN is Erol's 13 track debut album on Mi5 Recordings. It is filled with inspiring songs and traditional instruments along with the modern additions that have influenced Erol's music which gives it a funk edge. He brings the rich musical, vocal and dance traditions of Haiti into modern form to be enjoyed by all kinds of people whether you understand the language or not. The first track, "Hounto Legba" begins the album similar to the way a Vodou service would be started with the dialogue between the spirit of the drum and Legba, the spirit who opens the way for the other spirits, known as lwa, to enter.

The true artistry of this album is the deep symbolism that has been created, however you need not understand all of this to appreciate it. Each song leads into the next layering and interweaving them together. The album touches on important issues, not only to the Haitian culture, but to the world as a whole such as ecological threats. It is in my iPOD NOW!
