Real Powerful Puerto Rican Salsa, June 29, 2004
This review is from: De Regreso (Audio CD)
As a professional Salsa musician & a Salsa music lover, I highly recomend this cd. If you are looking for soft salsa,or a Salsa cd to dedicate to your wife, girlfriend, well, look somewhere else, this CD is for meat eaters. Terrific & powerful Musical arrangements, & out of this world performances by Salsa`s best warriors[musicians & vocalists], especially the kick-ass, in your face trombone solo by Gamalier Gonzalez, & a top notch performance vocally by Victor Manuelle.Well, the name of the band tells you everything. A terrific collection CD. Puerto Rico is the CAPITAL OF SALSA MUSIC, taking the place of one time Salsa Capital, New York City, being that NYC & P.R., are the birth places of Salsa, & not Cuba. The musical term of "SALSA", for those who do not know, >>>is a musical concept<<<, that was not born in Cuba, but, was was conceived from Puerto Rican & a few Latin musicians, in N.Y.C. & in P.R. Salsa uses the cuban rythm of Son, as its rythmic backbone, fusioned with other afro-caribean/latin rytms, such as the Cuban Rumba, Songo ,Puerto Rican Plena & Bomba, respectively, & also Puerto Rican jibaro music, which is its country/folkloric music . ¿And why do I say that Salsa was born in NYC & in PR, because, NYC gave Salsa its street/urban sound, while PR gave Salsa its island/nostalgic/criollo sound. Some refer to salsa as an "umbrella term",because of the the different Puerto Rican-Cuban-Latin fusion, but not an umbrella for cuban music, because cuban & afro-cuban music are by themselves, their own genre. It`s a shame that alot of Cuban musicians & cuban music purist friends will go @ nothing to discredit the powerful music movement/fenomena & history of Salsa. I`ve even heard some say that it[Salsa].. "is just plain cuban music & played wrong"... To say the least that Salsa sounds so different & distinct from Cuban Music in its pure form, starting from the music arrangements to the execution of the instruments.

Not like the first one, but it's ok., July 26, 1999
This review is from: De Regreso (Audio CD)
Well, if you are into 90's salsa this is the disc for you, but if you are into something similar to the old school, the first one ( released in 92 ) is much better. Amazon should see about stocking the first one. From what I read and the bits I heard, it kicks.

All Star Brass From PR!!, January 15, 2006
This review is from: De Regreso (Audio CD)
This CD released by RMM in the 90s has some of the best sounding brass & percussion players I've ever listen too. You will be impressed with the sophistication and arrangments as well as the singers. If you want to hear some Heavy Duty Salsa Music, look no further!
