Rock and Roll made the way it should be....,
By
This review is from: Regretfully Yours (Audio CD)
This record came out soon after the death of grunge, and I couldn't have been happier. The songs found here are top-notch. The opening one-two punch of Slot Machine and Phaser set the tone for the whole album. Ringing lead guitars, propulsive drums and compelling vocals. The electric crunch of third track Carried and it's addictive melody hooked me from the first listen. Lead singer John Davis is one of the finest American songwriters still working today, on the level of a Brian Wilson or an Alex Chilton. Melodies, rhythms, lyrics all combine to create a rocking pop sound that will not leave any true music lover disappointed. Other stand-outs include minor-hit Sucked Out, Destination Ursa Major, the desperate Nothing Good is Real, and album closer Rocket.

Well-crafted pop with bite,

Like guacamole, I like music with some bite. This Superdrag delivers in all the best ways. Take the melodic sense and vocal range of Elvis Costello and superimpose it on the guitar noodlings of Swervedriver, Superchunk and the oft-overlooked Canadian shoe-gazers Mystery Machine and you start to get an idea of what Superdrag are all about. Add in the occasional Nirvana-esque guitar whines and metal-head riffs and you're getting closer. And just when you think you've got them pigeon-holed, the insanely poppy single "Sucked Out" kicks in at track number 4 and turns everything upside down. And just when "Sucked Out" starts to sound like the poppiest song ever, singer John Davis pulls off the decade's raspiest vocal deliver in the choruses. Get that man a throat lozenge! Regretfully Yours... in title only; you will not regret buying this record, or my name's not Stove.

Great Album by a truly underrated band!,

I saw Superdrag open for Weezer in Denver at the Ogden Theater right after "Pinkerton" came out. I went out and bought "Regretfully Yours" the next day. The songs are absolutely beautiful and rockin' at the same time. Bitter-sweet pop songs with an edge - No joke, this record made me go out and buy a guitar too. It kind of sounds to me like what you would get if Brian Wilson had written and sang for...The Replacements for example. It's one of the few albums I can listen to all the way through without skipping a single track and I think that's a rarity in music.

Fantastic album by a regretfully under-rated / little-known band. You'll be hooked as Superdrag burns through the first four tunes and rounds out the album with equally great tracks 9, 10, 11, & 12.Their somewhat heavy alterna-pop is reminscient of Pinkerton-era Weezer, with more of a raw, garage sound. That's not to say this CD doesn't sound incredible or lack production quality, there's simply just more free emotion here - Weezer's recordings tend to be a little more calculated. If you like Weezer, Built to Spill, and hell even the Clash, you'll love this album. Then you'll buy their latest, In the Valley of Dying Stars.

Classic rock for the 90's.,

If you miss fuzzed out guitar rock about breaking up with your girlfriend and cigarettes in a time when bends only care about being cutting-edge then Superdrag are the band for you. Ever since I saw this band open for Weezer in '96 at The Fillmore in S.F., CA, I've been hooked and bought all their releases. Unfortunately, everyone will always think of them as the "Sucked-Out" band because of the stupid Commercial world. "Sucked-Out" doesn't even come close to the greatness of songs like "N.A. Kicker." Though the band's best and mature songs can be found on "Head Trip In Every Key", "Regretfully Yours" is still their classic. The production, lyrics, and music are all zenfully simplistic; yet it has the feel of a masterpiece. Buy "Regretfully Yours" if you miss your amped out guitar rock.

The best music in the history of mankind,
By A Customer
This review is from: Regretfully Yours (Audio CD)
Ok so perhaps the title of my review streches it a bit, but this really is one of the best CDs I've ever bought. Besides the great older albums I have (Zepplin, Pink Floyd etc.), this is the only album I've ever gotten that I still listen to almost four years later. And I get sick of music quickly. This band has a really genuine and unique sound that I really love, and it really shows in this album. Highly recommended.

Although not well known, Superdrag is one of the best rock bands out there. There unique blend of modern rock and vintage 70's sound is unmatched. This allows them to produce incredible albums with great sound and raw power and emotion. Must have for any rock music lovers.

Regretfully Yours is definately worth buying. This CD is something special and after listening to it once anyone will be hooked on this stuff. It's filled with catchy songs that will be stuck in your head for days. Superdrag isn't just a pop band, they are different from the bands you hear on the radio and really do have a unique sound, plus there songs are truly heartfelt. If you haven't heard this CD then your'e missing out on some awesome music.

As close to a perfect 90's album as you can get.,

Superdrag is one of those bands that most people have never heard of, but if you know them, you are a total fan. All of their albums have a slight British invasion, slight post grunge taste to it. This album is solid, from start to finish, feeling more a whole, rather than multiple songs placed on a record. It has a slight melancholy feel in parts like Garmonbozia, and a punchy rock feel in others like Carried. I love all the Superdrag albums, but find myself always coming back to this one, the first one I owned back in 1996 and just listening through it singing my lungs out on long drives by myself.
