A decent book, needs improvement,

This review is from: Regular Expressions: The Complete Tutorial (Paperback)
I actually read the online version of the book. It is available at regular-expressions.info and is very good for a quick reference.
Bad Points The order of the chapters needs some improvement. Chapter 10 covers the * and the + operators. But the author actually uses them in previous chapters. There seems to be a lack of consistency. The print needs even more improvement. All strings in the book are surrounded by double-quotes. The start double-quote character appears at the bottom of the line instead of the top. The book also lacks good examples of regexps. One would expect a lot of regexp examples e.g. a regex for double-quoted strings which repeat twice,.... ( I am making the example up, but you get the idea) so that readers begin to think in regexes. Good Points The content is good and this book can get you up and running in regexes in less than a day. That is the best thing about the book. The author also has explained how regexes are used in a number of different languages.

I believe most of this book comes with the RegexBuddy documentation [...]
, a regular expression debugger/editor created by the author. It's worth it to pay a bit more and get the tool instead. |
