A great book for anyone who has an older house. It is full of general information on the names of the parts of old houses and where to get materials to rehab your house, along with the proper way to make repairs. Lots of great pictures. Thank you City of Oakland Planning Department for caring.
This is my third copy. Loan them out and they do not come back. A tribute to any book.

Great drawings. Simple easy-to-read descriptions and advice. Seems to touch on all of the most common things to be encountered when purchasing and rehabiliting an old (read: historic) home. A great selection of styles that are common in many parts of california though the information will certainly prove useful to folks elsewhere as well. For the price, the value can't be beat. A great entry point and first reference when attempting context-sensitive home repair and augmentation.
