Book Description

February 4, 2009
The story is told by a son who needs to write a screenplay for his father. A young man from an archetypal well-grounded Midwestern family wants to go to film school in Hollywood to become a screenwriter. A young woman, once a child star from an archetypal screwed-up show business family, is trapped in a pattern of self-destructive behavior. The inevitable drunk-driving accident, intersecting her life with his, should have landed her in jail, wrecking her career. She put his mother in a coma. His father is a prosecuting attorney. Instead, the prosecutor offers her a surprising lifeline—provided she can live with the family, caring for the mother, anonymously, for one year. Two lives intersect: one must know love as a daughter before she can be a woman and actress; the other must lose his father’s voice before he can find his own as a man and writer. He writes a short, sweet, sentimental story. Can he make it into successful film?

5.0 out of 5 stars Rehabitation, April 28, 2010

This review is from: Rehabitation (Paperback)
This mix of rural, Midwest USA, and LA is completely different, but delightful. Written more as a screenplay, it was a bit hard for me to get into, but once I got there, I was hooked. This crazy story of a movie star headed toward disaster and saved by her own victims is very engaging and remarkably believable. Great reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars Facing New Realities, March 14, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rehabitation (Paperback)
Rehabitation is both a poignant and captivating read. The novel opens with the son's struggle to complete his screenplay and then quickly injects the reader into the actual script which depicts the events of the last year. It is the juxtaposition of the lives of the son of a Midwestern family and a young, privileged and reckless actress. Crisis thrusts the characters into life together and then later threatens to destory the bridge they have built. Ultimately they they re-enter their former lives but with a different perspective and deeper understanding of one another. The book reveals an in-depth examination of the inner-workings of the characters as they undergo both tranformation and growth into mature and more complex individuals.
