About the Author

Karyn Mitchell is a Naturopathic Doctor with a Ph.D. in Psychology. She attended the University of Iowa, The University of Nebraska, Loras College, Buena Vista College, Midwest University and Westbrook. She is an international teacher and speaker in the fields of Reiki, Hypnotherapy, Vegetarian Lifestyle, Meditation, Natural Medicine and Shamanism. She has been a student of Psychology, Metaphysics, Religion, and Philosophy for over thirty years. She is a member of the American Naturopathic Medical Association. She has taken the Five Mindfullness Trainings with Master Thich Nhat Hanh, a Buddist Monk of the Zen tradition, as has taken initiations and studied with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Also, Karyn ia a grduate of the Silva Method, and has studied Shamanism with Michael Harner and Sandra Ingerman. She has studied other cultural dimensioins of shamanism in other countries and from other instructors. She is a medical intuitive and mystic dedicated to sharing the spirit of comapssion and love for people, animals, plants, and minerals.

She is a Holistic counselor and a Certified Reiki Master-Teacher of the Usui Shiki Ryoho School of Reiki. She is certified through the American Board of Hypnotherapy as an Instructor of Metaphysical Hypnotherapy, and is an instructor certified by the International Medical Dental Hypnotherapy Association, and the American Association of Behavioral Therapists. Karyn holds further certification from the National Association for Transpersonal Psychology in the areas of Clinical Hypnotherapy, Transpersonal Therapy, Analytical Hypnotherapy, and Past Life Regression Therapy. She and her husband, Steve Mitchell, have cofounded A.R.T., the Association for Regression Therapists and "Reiki Path Empowerment" School of Reiki Instruction. They have both devoted their life's work to assisting others with their spiritual growth. Karyn maintains an office at Haven Holistic Center in St. Charles, Illinois and works as a Holistic Counselor, Naturopath, Reiki Practitioner, Teacher, and Regression Therapist. She has taught at three Universities in the United States. Her personal Spiritual philosophy is to guide students and clients to a place of personal awareness and empowerment.

An inspiring book on the authoress' view on Reiki. She describes some meditative practices that are interesting and rewarding, among them a meditation where you get to meet Usui, Hayashi and Takata. The book also contains influences from Shamanism with the exorcism of entities and energies. Where Diane Stein fails completely (IMHO) with her fear of psychic attacks in her book on "Essential Reiki", Karyn Mitchell takes an entirely different approach and, instead of continuing to build up fear, shows us how to deal with it rather than add to the problem. This is great.

The only downside I found with this book was the chapter on manipulation of food which to me felt out of place and sounded very exaggerated. Even though Mitchell is trying to be informative this really takes the rate down for me. Maybe we don't have the same problems with food manipulations here in Sweden... at least not yet and never will I hope.

I enjoyed this book and since I read this book about 2 years ago my Reiki path have moved into Tibetan mysticism and Zen so I really look forward to reading "Reiki Mystery School" by the same author.
