About the Author

Rev. Bruce G. Epperly, Ph.D., is a reiki master-teacher, an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and Disciples of Christ, and is the author of 11 books and over 100 articles and reviews. Dr. Epperly has appeared on numerous radio and television programs, including ABC World News Tonight, Night Line, One on One with John McLaughlin, and PBS Evening News. Bruce is Director of the Alliance for the Renewal of Ministry and Continuing Education, and Associate Professor of Practical Theology at Lancaster Theological Seminary. Rev. Katherine Gould Epperly, D.Min., is a reiki master-teacher and is certified in pastoral psychotherapy, massage therapy, MBTI, and massage for persons with cancer and chronic illness. Katherine is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and Disciples of Christ and is currently co-pastor, with Bruce, at the Disciples United Community Church in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Being a Reiki Master and Christian I found this book informative and affirming. Reiki translated from Japanese is 'Universal Life Energy'. And who is the source of that? Ummm...

This book wonderfully explains how Reiki fits in with the Christian tradition of the laying on of hands. It speaks of healing on the emotional, spiritual and physical level.

Bruce & Ktherine Epperly's ecumenical approach to 'the laying on of hands'/Reiki speaks volumes of the healing love of God.

5 Stars for this book because it's, as far as I know, the only one of its kind. And as are all of Dr. Epperly's books, it is well written and easily and eagerly read. Reiki, a method and practice of hands-on and distance healing prayer, is growing in popularity around the world. It's Eastern roots and flavor may lead some more "conservative" Christians to keep their distance. But that would be their loss. Prayer transcends any specific theology, and God is God, no matter the language one uses in prayer. So this consideration of Reiki practice, and its placement within the Christian context of prayer and worship, is a valuable contribution and an ecumenical bridge-builder. To learn the gentle genius of Reiki itself, you'll need to go beyond this book. But for Christians to get "permission" to do so, here's a place to begin.
