Brett Bevell Blows Reiki Wide Open, October 1, 2007
This review is from: The Reiki Magic Guide to Self-attunement (Paperback)
Every community has their pioneers who take risks and push us to grow. In the Reiki community there was Diane Stein with her "Essential Reiki", then, Frank Arjava Petter with his "Reiki Fire", and now Brett Bevell with his brilliant book, "The Reiki Magic Guide to Self-Attunement". With this book, Brett has single-handedly taken Reiki to the next level. Through years of experimentation, Brett has discovered new ways to work with Reiki that will very likely change how we think of and use Reiki energy. By offering attunements to all in exchange for service to humanity, Brett has gifted us with a tool for self-transformation and healing, both personal and global, that greatly expands any previous limits placed on Reiki. Brett's integrity and love for Reiki is evident throughout his book. His clear writing and simple instructions make this book a must-have manual for all. And the attunements work! As a Reiki Master for a dozen years now, I have "tested" the energy before and after the attunements and can feel the difference in the flow of the Reiki energy at all levels. But the attunements to the various Reiki levels are only part of the story here. Brett also introduces us to new symbols, and various inspired and creative ways of working with Reiki.
This book makes Reiki accessible to those who may never had the opportunity to explore it before, and will stretch those who already make Reiki part of their life. In "The Reiki Magic Guide to Self-Attunement", Brett Bevell reminds us that once again, our only limitation is our imagination.

Absolutely Wonderful, February 28, 2008
This review is from: The Reiki Magic Guide to Self-attunement (Paperback)
I was so pleasantly surprised by this book because I had no idea what to expect. I would have liked to have had this at the beginning of my Reiki path. The author really knows his stuff, but it is written so simply. It is a users guide, not a historical guide. His main idea seems to be that Reiki is for us all and the world has never needed it more. You really can self-attune,it works!! The Universe wants us to heal each other and ourselves in these hard times. Reiki IS majical and powerful. You don't need to spend alot of money in a mystery school setting to use it. He gives the basic symbols and has brought in his own that are incredible-powerful,easy to draw and more detailed in the uses for them. He is VERY humble and kind. He gives many uses for and instructions on Reiki and the attunements and healing the world!

Thoughtful Exploration of New Ways to Use Reiki, October 22, 2009
This review is from: The Reiki Magic Guide to Self-attunement (Paperback)
This is a book that I first read a few years ago. I attuned myself to some of the symbols, liked the way they worked, and didn't do much with the rest of the book. After I was attuned to Karuna(R) Reiki, I found that those symbols covered and extended what I had been doing with Bevell's symbols, so I let them fall by the wayside. (Let me emphasize, though, that those symbols are a valuable addition to Usui Reiki.)
Re-reading this book recently, I realized that I was now ready to work with the AMAZING techniques Bevell has developed/discovered involving reiki "cords" and "batteries," and particularly working with one's sahu (an ancient Egyptian term that might -- very loosely -- be rendered as "over soul"). I think most of us grow into our reiki practice over time, and begin to realize that a lot of the "rules" various teachers impose have much more to do with the teachers' own fears and limitations rather than the parameters of reiki energy itself. Bevell is extremely conscientious about ethical applications while fearless in exploring possibilities. He believes that we are obligated to find everything we can do with reiki to heal ourselves, each other, and our endangered planet. These extended techniques are what constitute the "magic" part of the book.
I appreciate Bevell's wish to make all of reiki available to everyone. My own experience, and my work with many other reiki practitioners, cause me to feel that the ideal is to work with a really good reiki master through the master practitioner level -- at that point, one is better prepared to receive distance attunements and self-attunements. This book is much easier to understand if you have more experience in using reiki and constitutes a really advanced course in reiki techniques. However, reiki teachers -- especially "really good" reiki teachers -- are not always available, and working thoughtfully and carefully through this book will give any serious student a solid foundation. I do recommend taking time between attunements and practicing a lot of "basic" reiki before working with the more advanced techniques. When you take time to assimilate an attunement and practice with the energy, you become better able to channel that energy.
I am finding these new applications amazingly effective and I'm grateful for Bevell's work. He has helped me improve the quality of my practice.
