An absolutely wonderful cd - very simple musical notes/sounds with sounds of real humpback whales woven in throughout, like they're telling you their story. Some parts sound like ocean mist, others like waves/bubbles which makes you really feel like you're in the water with them. The songs are almost hypnotizing in both their simplicity and the wonderful compositions that seem to embody the essence of water and the sea. The whale sounds themselves seem to touch me at that quiet inner place that seems to speak of eternity. Its just amazing, so soothing. For the nature lover, I noticed reading the cd insert that the sale of the cd supports the Ocean Alliance and the Whale Conservation Institute so I thought that ws cool too. Hard to describe this cd - definitetly worth every penny - I'd buy it again and again in a heart beat.

I have many new age cd's that I use in massage (massage therapist here) and as of now this is my absolute favorite. I never tire of it. I had sought out pure whale song for a long time and found it in another cd. However for a magical experience worthy of massage or daydream drifting this is perfect. Massage and daydreaming require a non intrusive background that only adds to the experience. If you are looking for whale song only, I suggest Songs of the Humpback Whale (Living Music). The pure recordings of whale song from that album/cd are actualy mixed into this one but with delicate relaxing music.

We played this music in the delivery room for the birth of our boy 7 months ago. It was beautiful and relaxing. The staff loved it too. As unintended background music for the birthing video, it's perfect. For the next months, my wife listened to it before and during breastfeeding. The music and whale songs still lulls our hungry or sleepy boy...our whole family in fact, to this day. This CD has really helped establish an atmosphere of calm at important times for us.
I have no other CDs I would recommend so highly.

I first heard clips of this CD several years ago and they didnt prompt me to purchase it. I didnt enjoy it at all. (I was looking for a new CD to play during my Reiki and massage sessions.)

I ran into it again tonight and decided to purchase it on a whim. Today was a very stressful day for me and the CD turned out to be a treat! It relaxed my mind and my body! I usually dont write reviews but felt I should write one on this to let people know that it may take several tries to warm up to the music. It does have a unique flavor to it.

This cd is so beautiful. I play it when can't I fall asleep, it literally lulls me to sleep! If you appreciate whales or you just plain love them, you will enjoy this cd thoroughly. Very smooth with no loud sounds or intrusions to abuse the lovely music.

This is my first purchase of meditation/yoga/healing music. Incredibly smooth and fluid. No overpowering, intrusive instrumentation to interrupt the flow. The subtle whale sounds mix fluently with the music, so it's not like you're just listening to a Discovery channel special or anything. Human and animal elements mix perfectly to create a very soothing, peaceful combo that's stimulating enough to keep your interest up, mellow enough to get your stress levels down. A great practice CD.

I love the whales and I love this CD. I play it at work and it definitely helps keep my stress level down. I believe that Kamal has done a masterful job at blending human sounds with whale sounds. I agree with some of the reviewers that I usually prefer the whales alone, without any human input - but this CD is hauntingly beautiful. I kept wishing that Kamal would make another one - so I can't wait to hear Reiki Whale Dreaming.

1) Whale Dreaming (11:04/10:58) - peaceful track with whale sounds blended with flutes/woodwind instruments and sustained vibrational notes on electronic keyboard. You also hear the waves going in and out. Quite pretty and very nice for reiki, meditation, or other alternate healing modalities. Of course, you can also use this CD for just chill-out time or to lull you gently to sleep. The whale sounds are recordings from the 1960s of Humpbacks.
2) Song of the Deep (7:24/7:12) - sustained electronic keyboard notes, occasional low male voice (like chanting), whale sounds, blub blub under water sounds and some waves on the beach. (Personally, I could do without the voice but it is not a problem.)
3) Enchanted Worlds (11:48/11:06) - probably a synthesizer, but sounds like a harp in this one, along with the whales and waves. Of course, you also hear the sustained synthesizer notes. A little more ethereal touch on this one in the beginning, then deepens a bit.
4) Travellers of the Seas (8:48/8:00) - begins with a light piano sound, accompanied by waves--more like a gentle tune throughout while the whales sing along.
5) Pacific Peace (11:22/10:40)--our whale friends intermingled with peaceful electronic keyboard, harp, and bell sounds.
6) Out of the Blue (7:35/7:12) - nice peaceful sustained electronic sounds, woodwinds, and whales.
7) The Far Horizon (7:08/7:04) - the last song includes the vocal toning again. I only remember vocal toning on this track and on track 2. The whales are still singing.

Note--my computer is showing different times for each track than the CD cover, so I am showing you my computer's time/CD cover time--at least an hour of beautiful relaxing music with whale sounds throughout each song.

The whale songs include recordings at a depth of 1500 feet using special deep-water microphones--part of a US Navy experiment costing tens of millions of dollars which will never be repeated.

The whale sounds used are so very beautiful. They almost sound like they are talking sometimes. (Well, actually, they ARE talking.) The blend of the music with the whales is superb. Of course, some tracks have more whale sounds than others, but it is safe to say that the whale songs are throughout the entire CD. From a reiki standpoint, I believe this CD to be vibrationally superb, especially if you have a calling toward the water and dolphins or whales.

I highly recommend this CD. It is relaxing and beautiful, not just a typical mindless new agey CD.

I wanted both a CD that had JUST whales, and a CD that had whales with relaxation music. I bought the "Songs of the Humpback Whale" CD for times when I wanted to just hear whales. And I bought this as a going-to-sleep or relaxing ambient music with the beautiful sounds of the whales integrated with new age synthesizer music.

Let me say that I typically am not very impressed by new age music, that I'm not particularly into massage or relaxation techniques, and that I don't even know what "Reiki" means. Nevertheless, I like this CD because it is relaxing, and because it has that semi-rhythmic but not jarring quality that humans like me enjoy when falling asleep, or trying not to think very much. Even my boyfriend, who is, eh, something of a music taste snob, tolerates (maybe even enjoys?) it when I put it on before I go to sleep. I figured I'd be sleeping on my own when I bought it, but the synthesized music isn't THAT awful and smarmy.

There is this part in the middle that you can almost hear a human voice, and it morphs into...some weird semi-human sound, and that is the only part of the CD that really annoys me. Otherwise, I can either concentrate on it completely, or else fall asleep listening. I like it. If you are looking for ONLY whales, this isn't it. But as far as musical performances including nature sounds goes, this one is great, because the background music isn't annoyingly repetitive (not at all), and it is actually well-constructed and enjoyable.

Edit: the more I listen to this, the more it becomes my favorite relaxation CD. I really like it. It is MUCH better than the Whale Dreaming sequel that Kamal came up with. If you're trying to decide between those two, I definitely recommend this one. It seems to me that you can hear more of the original whale songs in this CD, which is part of why I like it so much.
