LA LUPE
She was a queen in her own right, bringing an innovative spirit to her music, which captured the imagination regardless of the genre: guaracha, bomba, son, or bolero. Only her presence was needed to revolutionize the music scene. She used her trademark "ahà namá" and "ay yi yi yi" to dominate any song she tackled with the intense, irreverent, effortless air that characterized each and every one of her recordings. She had achieved a certain unexpected fame in her native Cuba, where she was considered a revolutionary for her vocal style. Upon her arrival to the United States, she embarked on a new and equally consecrating stage of her career, one that would take on a new dimension alongside Maestro Tito Puente, with whom she would record four albums. Even after her tragic death, La Lupe was honored by the Spanish film society -in particular Pedro Almodóvar, one of the country's most famous directors, who included her song "Puro teatro" in his movie "Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios." The song was, and is, one of the most vibrant and representative of her discography. Some say La Lupe was the artist who knew the greatest success. She also drank the deepest from the cup of tragedy and misfortune, but none of this took anything away from her reputation of being an unparalleled, personable artist.

Reinó por derecho propio por aportarle a la música innovadora modalidad poseÃda por un atrapador hechizo que transmitÃa sin importar el género: guarachas, bombas, sones y boleros. Solo bastaba su presencia para revolucionar el ambiente musical entonando lo que serÃa su carta de presentación, el "ahà namá" y el "ay yi yi yi" con el que se hacÃa dueña de cualquier canción que interpretaba con ese aire violento, desenfadado e irreverente que le caracterizó, expresado en todas y cada una de sus grabaciones. En su Cuba natal alcanzó insospechada fama, y se le consideró una revolucionaria por su particular estilo para cantar. Al llegar a Estados Unidos, inició una nueva etapa igualmente consagratoria. Su carrera adquirió mayor trascendencia y otra dimensión respaldada por el Maestro Tito Puente con quien grabara cuatro producciones. Aún después de su trágico fallecimiento, la cinematografÃa española y en particular Pedro Almodóvar, uno de sus directores más representativos, la honró incluyendo en la banda sonora de su pelÃcula "Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios" el tema, "Puro Teatro", que fue y es, uno de los temas más vibrantes y representativos de su discografÃa. La Lupe fue una artista de la que puede decirse que conoció el esplendor del éxito más rotundo, pero también bebió el sabor agridulce de la tragedia y la desdicha, que no le restó el ser considerada una de las mejores exponentes de una intérprete personalÃsima e irrepetible.
