Editorial Reviews

REINCARNATED is the reggae and dancehall influenced album executive produced by Diplo and the Major Lazer production team.

REINCARNATED, chronicles Snoop Dogg s spiritual journey to SNOOP LION that grew from his recent trip to the island - where the Jamaican people and culture positively affected him.

"Major Lazer and I had a special opportunity to focus on recording REINCARNATED from top-to-bottom with no interruptions in Jamaica. From my time spent with the people and in the streets, these songs are based on peace, love, and the struggle." said Snoop Lion. " Here Comes The King is a taste of what's to come off that REINCARNATED album and movie. It's going to be an exciting 2013. Bless up."

Snoop Lion is a new moniker of multi-platinum artist and entertainment icon, Snoop Dogg, whose ability to stay at the forefront of popular culture and new technology has resulted in unwavering relevance. Snoop Lion, in conjunction with VICE Media and Stampede Management, are set to release REINCARNATED, the multi-media project capturing Snoop s exploration of reggae music and spiritual growth. The project includes a reggae-influenced album executive produced by Diplo and Major Lazer, a feature-length documentary of Snoop's journey and career which premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews, a photo book, and a self-sustainable gardening initiative named Mind Gardens.

Great album with many rockin grooving songs by one of my favorite artists!
mountain mama
So even though this is a reggae album, each song sounds very different and really has the flavor of the different artists.

Now let's see if he will stay with the message of peace, love, and the struggle.

I support Snoop. No matter what his name is. The name doesn't make the person, the person makes the name.

I will keep this short and sweet. I do love the album because it is different and unique. It is not about killing and shooting, etc.

Snoop actually had some left over material from this album that included songs with T.I., that did have negative lyrics, but it did not make the final cut, which I am happy for. Reincarnated is a good title, because it is a new direction for Snoop Lion. I give it a 9 out of ten, because the lyrics are good, but one of the songs, I just can't stand the beat lol, but that is just my opinion. The Ashtray song is a great song once you sit back and listen to the lyrics, close your eyes, 420 if you do that, and enjoy the beat and the mood it puts you in.

Snoop Lion has grown, and this album shows. Most artist are afraid to try something else, and I was afraid to buy this CD, but I did and I am glad I did.

Takes some getting used to, but once the music grew on me, I have kept it in my rotation in my CD players.

While a number of the songs have a reggae-style background beat, this really didn't strike me as a reggae album. It also comes across as more-than-a-little overproduced. Authentic reggae, in my mind, is exemplified by Marley, Tosh and Black Uhuru.

The fact that the last track on this album features Miley Cyrus (who can't sing worth a darn) is a testament to just how much Snoop has sold out to the record companies.

It takes more than a vacation trip to Jamaica to fully get the culture and the pacing of their lyrics. Maybe the next one will be better.

Snoop Lion, much respect given. He actually went to Jamaica and walked and talked with the brethren. A great first for him. Now let's see if he will stay with the message of peace, love, and the struggle. Jah Rastafari.

I love Snoop and it's nice to see his transition from gangsters rapper to understanding that we are all connected by
our need to be loved. The only way for that to occur is for us is to give love.

I love the album and the fact that he has grown up, found himself, and became the man he was destined to be. The music is personal to him and positive; that's all that matters in the end. Snoop fan for life!

Great summer album! It's a great album to listen to in the yard with friends, having a barbeque and drinking beer.

Although I do respect Snoop Dogg aka Snoop Lion for going into new territories with music, I believe that this album isn't as good as it could have been. For one thing I agree with other reviewers that say that this album is over produced. Couple that with Snoop's faux Jamacian accent, and this album becomes a tedious listen. I understand that this is first time trying the whole reggae-pop idea (keep in mind Snoop has ventured into other genres with not much success. Remember a few years ago he auto-tune sung "Sensual Seduction" and the Country song "My Medicine"?) I think that it's safe to say that the people who were waiting to hear was not expecting a reincarnation of Bob Marley, or Peter Tosh, or any other popular reggae singer back in the day. When I grabbed this CD in stores and looked on the back cover, a red flag popped up:

1. I believe that if you are going to do a reggae album like this, it should strictly be reggae. Why have artists like Drake (I'm sorry but he has trouble staying on beat on "No Guns Allowed"), Chris Brown, and even Miley Cyrus appear on here. Yes other reggae artists have had people like them on here, but they been known for doing that with the genre. Snoop has not gotten to that level yet with the reggae yet.

2. While Snoop is easily accessable nowadays with his largely extened fanbase, you can expect those execs at RCA to tell him to make a handfull of songs that will crack the Billboard Charts. That might explain why Major Lazer (also an easy accessable reggae-pop group) were executive producers of the album and produced the majority of the album.

Did not think I would like the Lion and thought it was just a marketing ploy. But, I absolutely LOVE it!! Brilliant, and I hope he stays with it -- I want MORE!!
