3.0 out of 5 stars Love through the ages...
The story of two soulmates who first meet in prehistory (caveman times) and die fighting over a mysterious rock. The two continue to be reincarnated throughout history. In each life, they meet, feel a sudden and unexplainable connection, and then lose each other. It's like they keep getting "do-overs" until they get things right.

What an amazing, beautiful, romantic, tragic, thought provoking and unforgettable book this is. I have absolutely fallen in love with it.

It begins in prehistory when a battle scarred Neanderthal man meets a desperate Cro-Magnon woman at the mouh of a cave, high on a cliff. Each is at a pivotal moment in his or her life and about to make a decision that will impact the future more than they are even capable of imagining. This meeting is brief and violent, but it is also the work of fate. They have no idea, but it was their desitny. They begin their journey in a struggle over a green jewel that ends in tragedy. Together they join the Wheel of Rebirth, but they are not even remotely finished with each other.

We follow these two soul mates through time and place in an epic adventure as they try, over and over, to get it right. They meet again in Ancient Egypt, Greece, Paris and the United States, taking with them reminders from each past life they have shared together. But they are not alone in this quest. There are other souls that travel with them who also must resolve their issues and discover the right path to take. The green jewel follows them as well, taking on new and deeper meanings each time.

When you look beyond the magical romance that transcends time, it is also a chronicle of human and civil rights through the ages. If these souls want to be together for all eternity, they will have to overcome incredible odds and fight to change the views of society.

Reincarnation shines more brilliantly than any jewel and will leave you with a tear in your eye and a smile on your face.

In each life, they meet, feel a sudden and unexplainable connection, and then lose each other. It's like they keep getting "do-overs" until they get things right.

Fans of historical fiction will enjoy the brief glimpses into a variety of time periods--prehistory, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, colonial America during the Salem witch trials, France during WWII/Holocaust, Mississippi during the Civil Rights Movement, and modern day New York.

The story kept my interest for the most part, but I was disappointed with the ending. The resolution seemed to come too quickly and easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars My new favorite book, February 12, 2008

I am blown away by this book. I don't think there's anything out there like it. The premise is intriguing and it works on so many levels. Sure, it's a romance but it's also a moving story about four people and how they evolve in their character through many lifetimes. It also encompasses issues of human dignity and takes you on a fascinating ride through history. It's a page-turner, too.I couldn't put it down. Go get it!

1.0 out of 5 stars REDUNDANT, November 23, 2009
This was probably one of the worst books I have ever read, and the only reason I finished it was because it was fairly short. And yet, it was still somehow way too long. The same idea was replayed constantly, just in a new time period. The only twist was the Civil War story, and even that wasn't very imaginative. Overall, it was just poorly written, and extremely predictable, especially after the first, I don't know... 2 stories??

1.0 out of 5 stars a review from an unhappy reader of a travesty of a book..., March 13, 2009
By
This review is from: Reincarnation (Hardcover)
I read this book for a book club and that is the sole reason I managed to finish it. It definitely ranks as one of the worst books I have read in a while. This is supposed to be a love story that transcends history, but it is really just one "love" story repeated over and over and over and over and over. You get the picture.

The story is incredibly repetitious. Instead of introducing new themes in each life, the same story is presented over again, just plopped in a different historical setting. That gets old, believe me. There is also enough repetition within each reincarnation to make each story drag on and on. We are reading the book; there is no reason to remind us of things that just happened 40 pages ago.

The general writing style leaves a lot to be desired. It is pretentious and flowery without reason and mainly results in characters speaking unbelievable dialogue. There is also no change in writing and speech styles for the different historical periods. To make each setting more believable, there should have been changes in dialogue. After all, people in 1930's Paris do not speak like people in Ancient Egypt.

In addition to that, the novel tends to be a bit on the preachy side. I don't mind subtle social issues, but I do not appreciate being beaten over the head with them. Some aspects of the novel were far too contrived and convenient, making it seem like lazy writing. There was also a poor balance between too long and too short. As a whole, I thought the book went on for far too long, but individual sections wrapped up so quickly, they hardly seemed worthwhile. If one or two sections had been cut out and the final section had been lengthened a bit, it would have done wonders.

With a theme as complex and interesting as this one, this could have been a fascinating book. As it is, the story was over simplified to the point where it loses all potential. Honestly, if I could give a book negative stars, I would.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Reincarnation (Hardcover)
this book was confusing. the girl could come back as a man or woman. vise versa for the guy. the book really lost you at some points. the ending wasn't what i was expecting either. i just wonder if the author ran out of time. wasn't as great as the other reviews say it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reincarnation, August 22, 2008

I am interested in the subject of reincarnation, but at first I wasn't sure I would like a book geared toward younger readers about some people's love life that spans through multiple liftimes. I was pleasantly surprised.

Despite what it says on the cover, "Reincarnation" isn't just a romance. It really covers the scope of issues related to the philosophy of reincarnation by following the lives of two people from pre-history to today. It addresses issues such as different cultural and religious beliefs in different lives, how expectations about life after death affect the actual experience, time between physical lives, fears and phobias that carry over, birth marks and physical attributes, talents and interests, and common relationships. In one lifetime the characters' genders were reversed, and they were often different races from one life to another. Past life memories arose from dreams, spontaneous recall, and eventually hypnotic regression.

The book was a little heavy-handed on the connections between lives, to a point where the current life was too overshadowed by past issues. But considering the topic, I'm not sure what other emphasis I would have expected. I also felt the ending physical validations for the characters' past lives were a little too convenient. Still, I've never read a work of fiction this detailed in the level of research the author put in to make it a believable account of the lifespan of a group of souls traveling through many lifetimes and growing together spiritually.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ah-Mazing., December 14, 2011

I am in the 8th grade, Yes the 8th. And i read this book. It was probably the best book I've ever read in my lifetime of book reading. Which truly isn't very many books. When i first grabbed this book, I hadn't meant too. I was in reading class, and i didn't have anything to read. So i quickly grabbed something off the shelf, and it began. The words just kept pulling me closer and closer to continue on. Everything about this book was perfect. Not only did i love it. I craved reading it. Forever and on, it will be one of my favorites. While i was reading this book, i found my self staying up late trying to get more and more pages done. I couldn't possibly stop. Suzanne Weyn is now one of my favorite book writers. Along with this book and Distant Waves, I love them BOTH ! (: And this is my Review for this book. It was awesome. I was completely speechless at first. It took me awhile to figure out what i was going to say it was really that good ;D
