About the Author

Albert Einstein said, "Once you accept the universe as being something expanding into an infinite nothing which is something, wearing stripes with plaid is easy." Doug "Ten" Rose has metaphorically worn stripes and plaid all his life. He has thirty years experience raising funds at street level for various causes, often while working under very adverse personal circumstances. He has invented and directed charity projects involving rock stars, pro sports teams, a governor, mayors, and senators. These projects raised awareness and large sums of money for others. Much of this was done while Ten remained homeless himself, and panhandled for food money on the streets (details at http://www.fearlesspuppy.org). He has recently written two books, Fearless Puppy on American Road and Reincarnation Through Common Sense. True to Ten's form, ALL author profits from these books will be donated to sponsor Wisdom Professionals (beginning with but not exclusive to Tibetan Nuns and Monks). Ten has an unaccredited degree in comparative religion. His real degree is as a graduate cum laude of heroin addiction and death, as well as thirty-five years and over a hundred thousand miles of travel without ever driving a car, having a bank account, telephone, or a bill in his name. Ten may be the most comedic smartass as well as the wisest and most entertaining survivor of the hitchhiking adventurers that used to cover America's highways. The term "crazy wisdom" is often used, but rarely meets its match the way it does in this author. Ten Rose and his work are a vibrant part of the present and future as well as an essential remnant of a vanishing breed.

Imagine a place where silence hears your words, simplicity is a treasured blessing, respect is a way of life. This is the description of a physical place, a Buddhist temple in Southeastern Asia more precisely, but it could be a place within ourselves...if only we learned to master reincarnation through common sense.

The Dalai Lama once said, "Nirvana may be the final object of attainment, but at the moment, it is difficult to reach. Thus the practical and realistic aim is compassion, a warm heart, serving other people, helping others, respecting others, being less selfish." The concept of reincarnation as the migration and rebirth of a soul (spirit, consciousness, you name it) into a new body after its biological death is by far the most popular Buddhist belief, but it may not be all.
Buddha's less known understanding of reincarnation as a daily spiritual renovation is even more important in the service of a life improvement. In this light, that mystical force we usually identify as karma becomes part of a natural law where individuals are not influenced by it. On the contrary, individuals govern it and shape it through conscious actions (or non-actions) and subsequent reactions. Rebirth should rather be a reformation of our present life, a reincarnation of our mind: we create karma every time we think and act. It won't be necessary to radically overturn your religious beliefs in order to understand and embrace this kind of knowledge. A constructive philosophy can easily harmonize with our spiritual inclinations, whether mystical or agnostic.

It is quite easy to forget that everything is interconnected, what with the haste, waste, and selfishness that marks much of modern life. I know that the more I drive my car, the more disconnected I feel. In the bubble, I think it's called. And in that bubble you are being honed to be an individual unit, pitted against the others. It becomes difficult to not be angry, to not be fearful, to not be depressed, and to not lose all hope. As things often occur, Doug Rose's book arrived at the same time that I was experiencing a renewed spritual awakening. This convergence speaks to the nature of things. When one is ready, guidance appears. But "Reincarnation Through Common Sense" offers much more than guidance. It's a well-written, lost and found story for the ages, which I believe has something, and something good, to offer, no matter what it is you are looking for.

Imagine humanity without pretense. Without greed, hate, or selfishness. This is what Doug Rose found, and I'm glad that he has shared the experience with us. I, in turn, will do my best to live up to and with these precepts, even when I drive.

Doug is a wonderful storyteller who has the ability to weave spiritual messages into an imaginative tale full of colorful characters and oftentimes humorous situations. In addition to being a great read, I appreciate the fact that proceeds from the book go to supporting humanitarian causes. A win-win situation.

Doug Rose states at the beginning of his book that he had not concerted himself a writer. I must disagree. Doug has a talent for words that hit the spot. His experience is an amazing story of a brain change. His opportunity for self growth is one most of us would not consider possible; enlightenment on fast forward. In order to get to that place it seems almost required for some of us to begin in a space of extreme discomfort. A place of surrender to helplessness perhaps. Tens book is an inspirational read for those seekers of peace. I enjoyed this new book as much as Doug's first book; FEARLESS PUPPY ON THE AMERICAN ROAD which is now in taters from passing it around to friends.

If you're looking for a gentle tale that holds your hand and gently guides you from beginning to end, this book is not for you. BUT, if you prefer the adventure of a wild rollercoaster ride with ups and downs that vacillate between depravity and wisdom, this is a winner!
