5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Examples
This book has excellent examples for thoroughly designing reinforced concrete structural members. It references directly to the ACI code.

1.0 out of 5 stars Vague and unhelpful
This is one of the worst textbooks I've ever bought. At least it's complete at over 1000 pages. The example problems, the heart of a text on engineering, leave MUCH to be desired. More than once the authors have decided to reveal new, and consequently unexplained concepts in the first problems at the chapter's end. That coupled with the fact that the instructor's...

The discussions were clear and the sample problems hit the bull's eye. I recommend this book to be included in the school library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!, June 4, 1999

Salmon is by far one of the better text books on the market today. Any Student wanting to learn both the theory and practical applications to reinfroced concrete design, this is the book to get. The best part about the book is that it makes you think and work to understand the material, while providing excellent example problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best ALl Around RC text Book, May 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I used this older (4th) edition when I was in school over 26 years ago and I have lost this book and here I am returning to this book as a professional as I know it's my best choice for the simple reason: excellent Author illustration and smooth transition in the understanding. This book offers gradual and user friendly methodology that the average engineer can grasp and always can refresh the memory easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great textbook, March 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The authors do a very good job of explaining the material in this textbook. They always reinforce all principles with many clear and detailed examples, which makes understanding the material much easier. Compared to other concrete textbooks, it seems the authors have leaned more toward explaining just how to design reinforced concrete members (as the title of the textbook suggests) but less on the MECHANICS AND THEORY of reinforced concrete. In my opinion, the most complete reinforced concrete textbook in the market is "Reinforced concrete: Mechanics and design by Wight and Macgregor."

Its a very good book. It is self explanatory. It covers ACI-318-05 in detail. I highly recommend this book for a masters student.

5.0 out of 5 stars Structural Eng., P.E., January 18, 2009
This review is from: Reinforced Concrete Design, 6th Edition (Hardcover)
Now, when Building Code Requerments for Structural Concrete(ACE 318-08) become more and more complicate, not clear, and too difficult for engineering practice, this book can be used by professional engineers and students too, because has a lot of samples and clear schemes.

That coupled with the fact that the instructor's solution manual contains few actual solutions is unforgivable. Repeatedly I've been forced to guess or assume reasons for the existance of certain calculations. Rarely do the authors explain their reasoning for doing certain things and if they do explain something it's not easily understandable from the text. I wouldn't recommend this text to anyone! If you're thinking about getting this book as a desk reference don't waste your money!
