3.0 out of 5 stars Where can I find errata.pdf file for 5th edition
Where can I find errata.pdf file for the 5th edition. Fig. 11-18 doesn't match with example 11-1. It should be corrected. The figure is from old editions. Any link? Today was my first experience with the 5th edition and first error.

This book was already one of the best concrete design texts and is even better with the addition of the new co-author James Wight, who adds valuable information on the design of concrete structures to resist seismic forces. There are a few minor errors in the examples that still exist from the 3rd edition, but they are minor and the examples are detailed enough that the corrections are usually forthcoming. I recently finished a MS in Structural Engineering focusing on concrete design and this book (3rd edition) was one of the 2 or 3 that I found myself referring to most often.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent examples, December 16, 2000

Bob McBob (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
As a student, this book proved to be a vital supplement to lecture topics concerning both the design and analysis of reinforced concrete. I would recommend having at least some understanding of structual mechanics and concrete material properties and behavior before buying this text though. It can be best used by upperclassmen undergrads and by professionals who need to brush up on basic concrete design skills. Covers analysis and design of beams with tension and compression steel, transverse reinforcement design, deflections, torsion, one-way and two-way slabs, continuous beams and more. It is HIGHLY recommended that you supplement this book with the current ACI building code for concrete.

A comprehensive book, explains all concepts in detail. Suitable as a textbook for beginners as well as a reference for practising engineers. I enjoyed the chapters on torsion, short columns, slender columns, and strut and tie models.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reinforced Concrete : Mechanics and Design (4th Edition), March 14, 2006
This book is the best for those who want a deeper understanding of reinforced concrete design.Since the author presents a step by step way to introduce the concepts, the reader is able to get a more detailed information and retents more concepts instead of procedures

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and Illustrative, June 2, 2000

This book is great in this sense that it illustrates the philosophy behind the numbers used in ACI code and the limit states of each design parameter. It is great for understanding the behavior of reinforced structural systems as well as practical design.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Standard Established Text Book, March 20, 2009

This review is from: Reinforced Concrete: Mechanics and Design (5th Edition) (Hardcover)
Prof. J. K. Wight, who was the Chairman of the committee, which revised the current ACI 318 code has joined with professor J.G. MacGregor (who also is a past President of ACI and chaired several ACI & Canadian code committees) in writing the fifth edition of this standard, well established and popular text book. Their experience is distilled in this well written book, which covers both theoretical as well as practical aspects of reinforced concrete structures. The ACI code clauses are well explained with examples. Though the book a bit expensive, it contains 1112 pages of useful information which includes several figures, tables, photos, charts and several worked out examples. A few examples are also in SI units and equations are presented in SI units also throughout this book.

Hope in future editions the authors will include a CD containing some spreadsheets for the design of various elements. I would recommend this book to any one interested in reinforced concrete design.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook, January 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Reinforced Concrete: Mechanics and Design (5th Edition) (Hardcover)
This is probably the best textbook for reinforced concrete design in the market, especially for the two to three semester sequences of reinforced concrete courses that are taught at universities. It provides many in-depth examples and clearly explains all procedures in a very concise manner, making the textbook very readable. The authors also spent a lot of time discussing the MECHANICS of reinforced concrete, which is something that many other textbooks do not thoroughly cover. I would highly recommend this textbook to any student in Structural Engineering. It is also serves as an excellent reference for practicing structural engineers. You will not be disappointed when you read this textbook.
