Book Description

“People tend to do pretty drastic things when they come to the conclusion that there is nothing left to fear. I wasn’t always like that, and I still may not be like that at all. With her gone, something changed. An emptiness that I never knew possible came through like a train you never see coming, and I never saw it coming.”

When Mike Lake’s wife unexpectedly passed away, he needed a change to help overcome his despair. He chose to hit the open road with his faithful dog, Bahama, as his co-pilot. During his travels, Mike rekindled with estranged family members, soaked up some sun in the Florida Keys, and got lucky in Las Vegas. Along the way Mike searched for his direction in life, reinventing himself to be the man he was meant to be.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Reinventing Mike Lake is an inspiring look at a young man's journey from tragedy to self discovery. On the road along the way we get to meet some great characters, not the least of which is Mike Lake. There is some Mike Lake in all of us, and a lesson to be learned from him in this highly-entertaining first novel. Looking forward to Jones' next book! -Nathan Gottlieb, author of "The Zukovka Experiment," former sportswriter for the Newark Star-Ledger and current sportswriter for HBO Sports.

This novel was a sweet surprise! I enjoyed every chapter (especially the last one)! I found it to be a page turner from the beginning. I have visited some of the same cities and recognized some of the same spots mentioned. Highly recommend this one! I hope you enjoy it as much as i did!

"Reinventing Mike Lake" is one of those books you won't be able to put down. Even reading it the second time, I regretted every time I had to put it down. Jones will make you laugh and cry with his relatable characters. This book really makes you examine your own life and contemplate reinventing yourself.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well, I'd Like to Be Nicer September 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This one, by a man, tells his story of coming back into the real world after a terrible emotional and physical loss.

You learn some interesting geographical facts and will relate to some thoughts.

I finished it and then said "Why?"

It's an okay book written in first person with some nice little things.

Insightful and a fun read. It takes a while to decide if Mike's darkside is really a player or not.

1.0 out of 5 stars needs work
Unfortunately, I couldn't get far because I couldn't get beyond the amateurish writing. This book needs serious editing for grammar and style. Read more
