1.0 out of 5 stars not what it's cracked up to be
Touted as several hundred new ideas about retirement, it is a rehash of old material. The tips (ideas) are not separated out. Reads very quickly.

This review is from: Reinventing Retirement: 389 Bright Ideas About Family, Friends, Health, What to Do, and Where to Live (Spiral-bound)
This book is so upbeat and user friendly that it should be the first book any retiree or potential retiree ever reads. It is full of information and stories from real people who have succeeded and learned important lessons about their plans for retirement.
The author breaks down the different issues one needs to consider in retirement, realizing that it is not a decision that can be made in a vacuum. All members of the family are involved in one's retirement, even if they are not living in the same house, and the author even points out the alternatives to moving or staying put. She suggests trips to check out retirement communities before selling your house, points out that moving to be near your granchildren has its pros and cons, and describes the different kinds of travel arrangements available to older travelers. She also deals with memoir writing and protecting your heirs, not the usual stuff one sees in retirement books.
The book is colorful and beautifullly designed. A must read!

This review is from: Reinventing Retirement: 389 Bright Ideas About Family, Friends, Health, What to Do, and Where to Live (Spiral-bound)
This book will make you smile while it provides you with lots of practical information and valuable insights. Anyone who is retired, is contemplating retirement, lives with a retiree, or has a parent, relative or friend who's retired or contemplating retirement should drop everything else they're doing and read this book today. It's chock full of great information as well as fascinating true stories that illustrate the author's points. It's a very "easy read" that entertains as it educates and informs.

It's well organized and easy to follow, valuable as a refence book when you just want to look up a particular topic as well as for reading the entire book straight through. Two thumbs up!

4.0 out of 5 stars Reinventing Retirment is a good road map for retiring, August 14, 2008
This review is from: Reinventing Retirement: 389 Bright Ideas About Family, Friends, Health, What to Do, and Where to Live (Spiral-bound)
I am in the process of retiring and found Reinventing Retirement to be very helpful. Before reading the book I had trepidations about retiring and what would I do with myself. Reinventing Retirement addresses this and other concerns head on. I now feel more comfortable about my decision to retire. Miriam Goodman is a good writer and understands what is going through the mind of a person who is contemplating retirement. The ideas presented in the book are practicable and right on target. I certainly will use many of them as I embark on retirement. Anyone thinking about retiring should read this book. Family members of a person retiring should also read the book as it will help them better understand and support the retiring family member. Miriam thanks for writing this book.
