Book Description

No one likes rejection. No one finds rejection fun. But there is one sure thing about rejection and writing: The only way to guarantee that you never receive a rejection is to never submit a manuscript, to never pitch and never query. I guarantee you, 100%, that will ensure you never get rejected.

But what’s the fun in that?!

Rejection is part of the process. Get used to it. I don’t say this to discourage you. But to not say it, to let you forget that rejection is a normal, natural part of the path to publication, would be like not mentioning to a medical student that death is a fact of life.

Why is it important to be prepared? Because if you’re educated about rejection, what to do about it, how to deal with your feelings about it, you won’t be so freaked when it happens. You’ll take what you can learn from each incident and move on, becoming smarter and more prepared in the process.

As you read the Rejection First Aid Kit, remind yourself, rejection is part of the game. But on the other side of rejection is an amazing book, written by you and the right people wanting to buy it!

If you wonder if you are cut out for writing (or more to the point, the rejection involved in trying to sell your writing) then this First Aid kit is exactly what you need to feel comforted without all the calories of chocolate. Strategies to deal with rejection and in fact, grow from them while keeping your writing on course. Two thumbs up.

Rejection First Aid Kit is a mini-book designed to help take the sting out of those rejections. While written with the aspiring writer in mind, much of the book can be attributed to other areas and professions as well. This book helps you take the sting out of rejections. It offers practical advice on how to interpret rejections and next steps. This is also the first book I've found that tackles head-on the dreaded emotional roller-coaster that often comes after a rejection. This is one I come back to time and again.

If you're brave enough to query, then you're going to get hit with rejection at some point. This little book is a fantastic balm for the sting of those inevitable rejections. It helps to put things in perspective, gives you a sense of what you might improve (and what you really shouldn't worry about) and some good solid advice on what to do (evaluating what was under your control and what wasn't) and what you should *not* do (no nasty emails, name-calling on social media, throwing tantrums.) I especially liked the "Rejection Fun" bonus section, with links to stories of famous authors who have endured rejection and publishers who "got it embarrassingly wrong." A great way to get grounded and feel better when you're feeling discouraged!

More About the Author

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Shannon McKelden has wanted to be a writer since she got that first A+ on a short story written in elementary school.

She joined RWA and started writing her first romance novel in 1990, a book that took 9 long years to write. (It's still on the shelf collecting dust and will remain there for eternity.)

After writing a second romance novel, Shannon found her voice in humorous women's fiction, with her first published novel: VENUS ENVY.

After publishing 3 novels, Shannon decided to share her take on positive thinking and became The Happy Writer...which became a popular blog and is now becoming available in e-book form as The Happy Writer Series of books. Look for them here soon!

Shannon still lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest where she freelances and works on her next book projects.
