Sandra Burr gives credence to this horrific family drama about a child's near-drowning and subsequent brain damage. She reads the women's roles melodramatically, stretching out the performance, especially when a sister reveals she's HIV positive. Alternating with the serious drama, and serving as comic relief, are scenes from the nursing home where one of the sisters works. This story has it all--comedy, drama, even romance. Burr does a splendid job weaving all the plot lines together with minimal confusion. Listeners will be drawn to this inspirational story. Rejoice is the 4th in the Redemption Series. It focuses on another of the Baxters' daughters, Brooke. Brooke and her husband are physicians with a strong marriage and deep faith. A tragic accident involving their toddler daughter shakes the entire family. I try not to go too much into the plot when reviewing a book, so as not to ruin the story for someone who has yet to read it. I will say though that the struggle between Brooke and her husband (because she blames him) is so realistic when something happens to a child. The Baxter family shows support, love, and hope, as they try to hold together as a unit. To me the main theme in this book--or call it a lesson to be learned--is that there is no greater act of worship than to trust God in all circumstances. If you've read the 3 books before this one, you already feel like you know the Baxter family. This is a thought provoking, inspiring book that you will not put down...get ready for some late night reading! I do recommed that you buy all 5 of the Redemption Series books so you will not miss a beat. In order they are: Redemption, Remember, Return, Rejoice, and Reunion. Even after that, there is a spinoff called the "Firstborn Series" starting with Fame and then Forgiven, that you'll want to pursue. Happy reading--these books are an experience, not just a diversion.

In this book, the characters go through a lot of trials, but finds reasons to rejoice, as the title of the book suggests. Hayley falls nearly drowns, but Brooke, her mother rejoices in Hayley's little accomplishment. Then there is Luke and Reagan's wedding, which gives the family many reasons to rejoice. And then there is Irvel, the nursing home patient, who teaches Ashley so much about love.

As usual, Karen Kingsbury is such a great storyteller, writing such great life changing stories from a Christian perspective. I loved the poem that Elizabeth wrote to Luke on his wedding day about "lasts". I cried when I read about Ashley's and Landon's good-bye on New Year's Eve. It's obvious, through Karen's writing, how much these two really love each other. And I loved how Irvel remembered her love to Hank when she has forgotten everything else. Then there was Peter, and how real his struggles were, as far as the guilt over Hayley's accident and his drug addiction.

Karen has written another 5-star book. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

You won't want to put this book down! This book continues the excellent series and is amazing! So many relationships are explored, and it's awesome to see what God can do. Make sure you have a comfortable chair, a box of tissues and no distractions as you take in this wonderful read.
