Biography

Abstract Rude stands as one of hip-hop's most accessible healers.Since first making regular appearances at L.A.'s legendary Goodlife open mic sessions circa 1994, this MC has steadily found the ideal balance of strong lyrical substance and high entertainment value. Unafraid to sing his own hooks and break out multiple flows within single songs, Ab Rude is one of the most multifarious ... Read more in Amazon's Abstract Rude Store

Editorial Reviews

As one half of the A-Team (with Aceyalone), one third of Haiku D'Etat (with Aceyalone and Myka 9), and front man of his group Abstract Tribe Unique (ATU), Ab Rude has endeared himself to fans worldwide through consistent touring and genre defining albums such as 1999's "South Central Thynk Taynk". "Rejuvenation" is a hard hitting soulful ride showcasing Ab Rude's distinct and unlimited vocal stylings. Produced by Vitamin D (G-Unit, Redman, Gift Of Gab, Choklate, Lifesavas, etc.)

I bought this CD today and with tempered expectations popped it into my car's CD player. After only a few tracks in I knew I'd made a mistake in paying money for this album, and shortly after that I was skipping tracks barely at their halfway points. By the time I cut it off, it would've served just as well to toss it out the window. All the tracks had the same slow, boring groove to them--hardly any variation in style between tracks. Vitamin D's beats are just really lacking here (fellow Seattle/Rhymesayers producer Jake One is easily outshining D for producers out of the Northwest right now). And honestly, Abstract Rude penned some of the most mainstream, pop-friendly lyrics on this release that I've heard from him. Elementary concepts and elementary rhymes with very little originality (other than his unique voice).

What's going on with Rhymesayers? Only a few years ago you couldn't pick a bad album from their catalog if you tried. The only reason I'm giving this album two stars instead of one is that, flaws despite, it is still better than most of mainstream hip hop out there, but that really says more about the mainstream industry than this release. And Abstract Rude does still have his unique voice and occasionally unique delivery, which at least sets him apart in a minimally redeemable way. This album just falls flat, though, and I'm really disappointed that it has the Rhymesayers name on it. Don't waste your time with this one.

Don't listen to the haters. Rejuvenation IMHO is just as good as P.A.I.N.T. Album rocks with a powerful message. Focus on the words not the mixin so much, haters, knockin them classic beats.

This album is a nice change of pace from the majority of other hip-hop albums. Abstract Rude has been doing this for a ong time and this album proves to be a culmination of his very best work. The lyrics are superb and the sound is incredible. This is a must own album for all underground hip-hop fans. Screw mainstream (c)rap!!!

I HAVE TO AGREE 100% WITH THE OTHER REVIEWER, THIS ALBUM WAS SERIOUSLY LACKING VARIATION, ALL THE SONGS SOUNDED TOO SIMILAR, TOO SOFT AND SLOW DRONING , NO FAST PACED SONGS, OR HEAVY HARD HITTIN STREET ANTHEMS, JUST SIMPLE JAZZY LOOPS, AND THE CRAP LYRICS JUST BARELY HUGGING EACH WEAK SAMPLE AS IT LOOPED OVER AND OVER...AFTER HEARING THE FIRST FIVE TO SIX SONGS AND NOT HEARING ANYTHING DIFFERENT I LITERALLY TOOK THE CD OUT OF THE PLAYER AND TOSSED IT OUT OF THE WINDOW ON THE FREEWAY....KINDA OFF PUTTING CUZ I BOUGHT THEIR CODE NAME SCORP ALBUM AND I WAS TRULY IMPRESSED, EVERY TRACK WAS SICK, EVEN PAINT WAS OK, BUT THIS ONE IS A STEP WAY BACK FOR THEM, I WAS THOUROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED AND I'M PRETTY SURE I WILL NEVER BUY ANY OF THEIR ALBUMS AGAIN WITHOUT SAMPLING THEM FIRST. I DON'T KNOW WHY ARTISTS CHANGE THEIR SOUND IF THEIR SOUND IS ALREADY TERRIFIC, IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT.
