2.0 out of 5 stars What happened?????
Is this really the same Nikki Turner who wrote Project Chick and A Hustler's Wife?

Nikki? What happened? Listen, girl, yu kno something's wrong when people are saying "Well, at least it's not as bad as her last two books." I mean, damn.

To be fair, there is some Nikki flavor here. Just not enough, and only in little spurts. I did find the beginning interesting, but just the very beginning. Everything leading up to Bejing being sold is cool, but almost immediately after that it goes downhill.

I wish I could say something really good, or even good at all about Relapse, but I just don't wanna lie.

But you know what, Nikki. I'm still gonna buy yur next.

5.0 out of 5 stars superb street lit tale, April 24, 2010
This review is from: Relapse: A Novel (Paperback)
Her middle class father Sterling raised Beijing Lee as a single parent. However, she visited her mother Willabee and her older sister Paris who Sterling knew lived on the other side of the track and in her dad's mind they were riding the train the wrong way. He is proven right when ignoring her conscience Paris sells ten year old Beijing to Chimp so she can buy crack. Teenager Mike intrudes on the sale and using a knife kills Chimp before warning Paris to take care of her sister better or else.

Years pass and Beijing has become a hotel concierge insuring the wealthy receive the best treatment. In Vegas, she thinks she may be in love with Lootchee, who treats her nice and gives her luxurious presents. However, he also brings with him a dark side that places Beijing in trouble even as her maternal family causes havoc in her life. However, all hell breaks loose with her life is in danger; Beijing thinks back to her last rescue and knows she could use a hero again just as Mike known as Stash is back.

This is a superb street lit tale that contains a powerful cast especially the heroine within an exciting story line. The tale grips readers immediately when the reader realizes Paris is selling her ten years old sister because the addiction supersedes everything else. That hold on the audience never lets up as her "loved ones" place Beijing in jeopardy while a late rivalry between Lootchee and Stash leave fans wanting more. This is a strong look at surviving the streets where a Relapse is the magnetic pull of your family.

1.0 out of 5 stars what happened!!!!, November 18, 2010

First of all i would like to say that i am a nikky turner fan, but this book was horrible, what happened to the writing style that we all love from the authors previous books. she said in the beginning of her book that she had a deadline to make and that is very clear in the way this book was written. it seems like the book was rushed and the story was all over the place.there were so many characters i got lost at time and it seemed to just drag on forever. it also seemed as if the main focus of the book was the main characters carrer as a hotel concierge. i had to make myself finish this book and i was very upset at the ending. i felt like i just forced myself to read this piece of crap for it to end like this! a waste of time. for anyone who is familliar with turners other work dont wast your time with this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars low down and dirty, June 15, 2010

A good street story with consequences.

Beijing Lee- down girl takes her job seriously, deals with the cards life has thrown her way, even her mother;s mental illness. Meets a dude that she hopes is going to be her calgon moment and take her away.

Rayna- Beijing's girl, can't keep a man, jealous hearted and not to be trusted.

York- Rayna's man/con artist. Don;t have any problems putting his girl at risk to get what he wants as long as the job is done.

Lootchee- is that nig and the one everyone wants to be or be with. Set his sites on Beijing and once he conquer he don't appreciate her until it's almost too late.

Nikki Turner is an author that has me hooked. This book was hot, full of action with enough twist and turns to keep the story jumpin.

Another Gangstaview going down

3.0 out of 5 stars Relapse- Was Ok!, May 26, 2010

This review is from: Relapse: A Novel (Paperback)
I am a fan of Nikki Turner and overall I thought the book was average. The story started off very good at the beginning introducing us to her mom and sister but when she began introducing other characters she did a poor job of giving full background history before continuing with the current events. Some of the events didn't make sense, especially when Lotchee pulled his disappearing acts. I also would've like to know what happened to Rayna at the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars So Lotchee Does have feelings?!, May 25, 2010
This review is from: Relapse: A Novel (Paperback)
In every book that i have read that has Lotchee as a character...he seemed so heartless and menance like. Relapse is a really good book and it takes you on the Journey of a very beautiful young lady by the name of Beijing. She has a crazy mother, a dope head sister, a loving father and an adoring step mother and niece. She goes through a rough relationship but it's when she meets Lotchee that she falls deeply in love.

I loved reading that she was an independent daddy's girl and she didn't depend on some dude to provide for her. I give Nikki Turner my utmost respect because since the first book i picked up by her, A Hustlas Wife, she has kept me spending my cell money on another book after book. Enjoy!

Relapse by Nikki Turner.

While this is not Nikki's usual storyline it was still a good read. Nikki has made you think about that one that you felt like you couldn't get away from no matter how hard you tried. Beijing who is the concierge of all concierges' is on her grind. From a mother who is mentally ill and a sister who is crack addicted to a father who absolutely adores her Beijing wants for nothing except love. The problem is she doesn't realize it until it happens for her. However, just as fast as she gets love it seems as if she loses it. While this is not the best novel by Nikki Turner it is a very good read. I applaud Nikki for once again going outside the box and taking a chance.

Happy Reading

5.0 out of 5 stars Nikki Turner Does It Again With Relapse, April 23, 2010
This review is from: Relapse: A Novel (Paperback)
Have you ever met someone who you just can't forget? When you're around that person, you feel euphoric? Your consciousness says no, but time and time again, you fall for the person like a bad habit?

Beijing Lee was the number one concierge in the area. Beijing dealt with an elite and exclusive clientele which included celebrities. Beijing takes pride in catering to her clients needs, no matter how small or big the request. Beijing's life was not always a walk in the park. A mother with mental problems, and a drug-addicted sister takes a toll on Beijing. Her only safe haven was her father, who raised her and taught her well. Beijing comes across a man named Lootchee who changes her world upside down. Will Lootchee and Beijing take there relationship to the next level, or will Lootchee cause more havoc and pain in Beijing's life?

Rayna, one of Beijing's closest friends, didn't have a good track record with men. Her latest boyfriend, York, was a suspicious character who pulled a lot scams and schemes that Rayna sometimes participated in. Rayna's friendship wasn't genuine. The green-eyed monster was deep within Rayna and jealousy between friends is a dangerous thing. Will Rayna jeopardize her friendship with Beijing, or will she stand up and help her friend in a time of need?

Lootchee had it all: looks, money, cars, and a nice home. He was a man who was accustomed to getting what he wanted when he wanted...and Beijing was no exception. Beijing was not your typical woman, and after getting to know her, Lootchee was definitely up for a challenge. Their new relationship was intense from the start, but a relationship built upon secrets and deceit has little promise of making it. Lootchee really cares for Beijing, but time and time again he shows exactly the opposite. With fears of losing Beijing, will Lootchee step up and be honest, or will it be little too late?

Nikki Turner does it again with Relapse. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it definitely held my attention with all the twist and turns that occured throughout the novel. Beijing was met with many hard decisions regarding her love life, family, friends and job. The book takes you along that journey with her and the ramifications from the choices she was forced to make, especially the ones to take back control of her life. Relapse showed a woman who on one hand had it all and could take charge but at the same time be vulnerable to one man who seemed to have her under a spell.
