Great intro for family and friends, 8 Nov 2006
By A prospective adoptive parent (Berkshire) - See all my reviews
I bought this book as my parents wanted to find out what they could do to support my husband and I through the adoption process. Since buying a copy for them I have been back and bought another 6 copies for all our relatives and closest friends, as it's relevant to anyone who will be involved in the life of the children we adopt.
It would be good to go into a bit more depth on some topics, but as an introduction it's great, and will give the people we are closest to a good appreciation for the process we are going through, but more importantly for the kind of issues that the children we adopt may face, and what role they can play in their lives.

Not suitable for the Irish situation, May 24, 2010
This review is from: Related By Adoption (Paperback)
I bought this book as I thought it would be useful for my extended family. Any family considering adoption in the UK will likely find it useful but it is just not suitable for use in the Irish situation. Adoption law is completely different in Ireland and all the advice from this book relevant to Irish families can be summed up in the following phrase: be ready to listen to your adopting family members and support them as you would support them in any other huge decision they have made. If you are going through the adoption process in Ireland, don't spend your euros on this publication!
