Must have for Child Psychotherapists,
By
This review is from: Relational Child Psychotherapy (Hardcover)
The strength of this book is its very modern perspective. For those of us newer to the field, it effectively summarizes traditional analytic, object relations & dynamic theories in a very practical manner.
This book also acknowledges that the current climate of treatment and population we treat is very different from that which most of the theories came from. Contemporary concerns, like working with school, child protective services, and managed care are discussed. The authors advocate a stance where the best intervention for the situation is used, as opposed to rigidly trying to apply one theory to every situation.

As a new therapist this book was excellent for describing my theoretical orientation from a psychodynamic relational interpersonal approach. I LOVE this book because it easily describes theory and application. A MUST have for both supervisors and MFT / social work trainees!
