Book Description

November 11, 2002 1931202486 978-1931202480
Most theoretical explanations of the etiology of homicide rates overlook the role of medical care. Chon suggests that the differential distribution of medical resources is partially responsible for the variation in homicide rates. In other words, appropriate and timely medical intervention can influence patient survival, thereby affecting death rates. However, analysis of World Health Organization and Interpol homicide rates reports over the 1990-98 period provides little empirical support for the medical resources perspective, suggesting the need for more refined indicators.
