5.0 out of 5 stars This book is not at all like the other relationship books.
I collect self help books. I happened upon this book while going through my mom's things after her death. It is an older book, but with a dramatic difference from other self help books. I have learned so much positive information that actually makes sense. It is about compassion, intelligent conversation and actions. It shows how we over-react to situations and then...

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't worry, be happy
Don't worry, be happy. Follow that advice, and I've just saved you $15 and the 90 minutes it might take you to read this piece of self-published fluff. Dr. Pransky is right, of course, about this self-evident factoid. If you can manage to let go of resentment, and to be more positive, forgiving and accepting of other people, you will likely see a positive change in your...

I collect self help books. I happened upon this book while going through my mom's things after her death. It is an older book, but with a dramatic difference from other self help books. I have learned so much positive information that actually makes sense. It is about compassion, intelligent conversation and actions. It shows how we over-react to situations and then things get all out of porportion. It also tells how to fix it and this is the one book that suggests that you alone, without the help of your partner, can put your relationship back on the right track. It is as basic and yet profound as can be. The main ideas is to use positive reinforcement and positive therapy to enable permanent change in relationships and their dynamics.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Relationship Handbook, October 26, 2005
This review is from: The Relationship Handbook (Paperback)
This book offers practical insights into how to better navigate the sometimes turbulent waters of human relationships, especially man/woman relationships. Especially insightful was the chapter that covered moods and how to react to the ever-changing moods that sometimes control our lives. I would welcome more application advice on dismissing negative or harmful thoughts and thought patterns. Overall, this quick read was well worth the time and cost.

I have read and re-read this valuable book for more than 10 years. I have given it (new and used) to every newlywed and engaged couple I know ... including family. This book should be REQUIRED reading before anyone is allowed to get married OR divorced.

Dr. Pransky is on the cutting-edge of Health Realization, or what has also been called Psychology of Mind. This book helps you to get in touch with common sense principles of living a happier life. If you are in couples treatment or even psychotherapy, this book will help you to speed up and deepen the process. And you might not even need therapy if you read and apply this book. --Dr. Fred Gallo, author of Energy Tappingand Energy Tapping for Trauma: Rapid Relief from Post-Traumatic Stress Using Energy Psychology

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful, May 9, 2007

This review is from: The Relationship Handbook (Paperback)
my husband and I have done a lot of work on our relationship, and were at a crucial turning point (for the worse!) when a friend suggested this book. It was incredibly helfpul and counter much of what the typical relationship books say --- don't talk about the past! Don't go into couples counseling! (I had been saying we need to go back and look at the past, we need to do couple's counseling, my husband was totally against it). It's really about connecting with your loving feelings for each other. (If you are driving down the road with your spouse and all is well, and suddenly you realize he didn't take out the trash the night before and that makes you angry, is it really a good idea to bring that up just to prove a point or do you want to reconnect with the good feelings and let that anger pass by like a cloud?) This little book is packed with simple thoughts like that which have transformed my need to be right over my husband for all of his (supposed) infractions -- not an easy task!

This book presents an approach that leaves the reader more comfortable and better able to deal with emotionally charged situations with their partner. I've never seen any advice quite like this and it was the only thing that helped me with my relationship questions and concerns.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Relationship Handbook, October 14, 2011

This review is from: The Relationship Handbook (Paperback)
This book holds much wisdom. Firstly it tell us how to get on with each other: how to search for the good in each other and our relationships, and from there to work to solve problems. And secondly, obviously much more importantly, it tells us the fundamental nature of well-being emotional, psychologically, spiritually and most probably as a side effect physically (less stress, more happiness, more resilient physical health...the old mind/body dance!). So this book not only tells us how to live together, it's got the secret to Life, The Universe, and Everything (It's not just 42!). Nice one George S. Pransky. Bless.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gifted Teacher!, May 18, 2011
This review is from: The Relationship Handbook (Paperback)
I first came across Pransky while I was at Harvard. A psychologist friend invited me to a lecture Pransky gave in Boston. His deceptively simple style is a trait of gifted teacher. You will remember many his teachings all your life. I found his new webpage and am replacing my old recordings and getting his new material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best relationship Book I EVER Read!, April 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Relationship Handbook (Paperback)
This is hands down the very best work on relationshps you are ever likely to find. Applying his deceptively simple principles really works. But there is a catch, because (unlike the one guy who gave this book only two stars) you will need to let go of judgment and start focusing hard on what is RIGHT with your spouse or partner. So simple, yet it works so well. So my advice: Buy it. Read it. Apply it. We did. And WOW!
