Because We All Have a Relationship We Need to Put to Rest

From your basic lying, cheating, no-good scum to those relationships that were doomed from the start (they were married to different people), to a man who faked his death, Relationship Obits is a voyeuristic romp through the unexplored underbelly of love and life. Kathleen Horan founded relationshipobit.com when a big breakup was followed two weeks later by the death of her father. Writing her father's obituary made her wonder what it would be like to write one for the end of her relationship. The Web site was born and thousands began to put their love to rest online. This collection is at times hilarious, raw, shocking, and poignant—a true celebration of love in all its manifestations.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“A potent repository for readers’ stories of love lost, captured in achingly or hilariously sincere tributes...The intimate (and omitted) details render these accounts heartbreaking and identifiable, each with the cathartic ring of long-held feelings finally released—or at least acknowledged—in concrete terms.” (Publishers Weekly )

“REST in peace, dead relationships. A new book called -- what else? – ‘Relationship Obits’ is here to serve as the perfect not-so-subtle hint to give to that moping, weeping friend who just can’t seem to get over That One Ex.” (New York Post )

“Poignant, clever, and sardonic.” (New Orleans Times-Picayune )

“A bittersweet testament to the beauty and trasience of love.” (The Sunday Times )

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll Laugh, You'll Cry, July 12, 2009
This review is from: Relationship Obits: The Final Resting Place for Love Gone Wrong (Paperback)
The concept for this book, to write a relationship obituary, is so brilliant that it's amazing no one thought of it sooner. The author launched the website [....] after the end of a relationship was followed by the death of her father. The book is a collection of these obits. Reading these sometimes funny, often touching, tales of the beginning, middle and ends of relationship is both entertaining and moving. Surviving a broken heart is a rite of passage and now there is a new ritual to help make the process a little sweeter and more meaningful. Whether you are currently mending from a relationship gone bad or enjoying the bliss of new love, this book is a terrific read.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you've ever loved and lost... or won... check out this fun read..., August 3, 2009
This review is from: Relationship Obits: The Final Resting Place for Love Gone Wrong (Paperback)
Have a copy of Relationship Obits: The Final Resting Place for Love Gone Wrong around the house. The short entries from real people talking about the death of their relationships are fun and interesting to read and make for great conversation starters. This collection will make you laugh and cry and remember either fondly or with bitterness people you've dumped or who have dumped you. This compilation by Kathleen Horan is thoughtful and witty and sardonic and touching and sad all rolled into one.

And... a must read with a bottle of wine for the recently jilted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Putting your relationship to rest...at it's BEST!, November 11, 2009
This review is from: Relationship Obits: The Final Resting Place for Love Gone Wrong (Paperback)
Anyone who has dumped or been dumped, loved and lost, should read this book. It is a fantastic compilation of real-life breakups and the feelings associated with them consolidated into 170 pages! Short-term, long-term, middle-term relationships...all being eulogized and put to their final resting place. Horan has masterminded a way for people to vent and grieve for their "love gone wrong." She poses questions such as, what was the cause of death? Who or what survives this relationship, and what will you miss? How did the relationship flatline? As far as the book layout, I love the large pull quotes, illustrations, and overall design. Brilliant!
