3.0 out of 5 stars Relativity Described in Layman Terms, June 20, 2007
By
This book contains very basic and outdated descriptions of the universe which is no longer tenable. The author expresses his doubt in the summary page (page 126) that theoretical and experimental development in cosmology may change the ideas conveyed in this book about the universe.

Chapters 2-4 give a brief introduction to general relativity in layman terms, and other chapters describe black holes, galaxies, quasars, and the dynamics of the universe. The chapters on quasars and dynamics of universe are outdated in light of new discoveries in cosmology and astrophysics. In spite of these deficiencies the book is readable and relevant ideas of relativity and cosmology are well presented. I recommend reading chapters 1 to 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Relativity and Cosmology, March 9, 2006
This review is from: Relativity and Cosmology (Paperback)
Encompassing the many exciting advances which have occured in the applications of general relativity to problems in stellar structure and cosmology, this lucid book provides a nonmathematical introduction to topics of current interest in astronomy and physics. After explining the theory of relativity, the author describes many of the fascinating applications of general relativity. The latest astronomical observations - particularly with regard to galaxies and quasars - are discussed, including black holes, white holes, the "Einstein-Rosen Bridge," the Kerr solution to the field equations for a black hole, and Krusal diagrams.
