5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all vibes fans..., July 15, 2002
This review is from: Relativity (Audio CD)
This is a good stepping-off place for all new Dickerson fans. This album was, in many ways, a revelation to me, especially since I'd already strip-mined all of Bobby Hutcherson's 60's discography for Blue Note.

Though Dickerson is really a Hutch predecessor, he recommends himself by a commitment to small-group formats, and a breezy, post-bop sensibility. Unlike Milt Jackson, Dickerson has an aggressive, all-the-time edginess that reminds me some of the best moments on Hutch abums like 'Oblique' and 'Happenings', however the tight interplay of Dickerson's groups remind me a bit more of late Bill Evans, in that his accompanists - in this case Austin Crowe on piano and Ahmed Abdul-Malik on bass - take on an expanded, crucial role, frequently trading lines with the vibraphonist.

If you are a fan of any of the above-mentioned players, give it a go - you won't be disappointed.
