It's great for rest periods as well, especially with headphones that shut out the rest of the world. My deepest gratitude to the creators of this marvelous CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Relaxing mix of the best from one of the best, July 4, 2008
This review is from: Relax: A Liquid Mind Experience (Audio CD)
I own several Liquid Mind albums, and although all are wonderful, I do have favorite tracks from each that I enjoy listening to over and over. This album contains all of them.

This is a great way to introduce family and friends to Liquid Mind. One gentle and relaxing way to share the peace and tranquility.

The playlist is displayed on Amazon, so there should be no surprise as to what you are getting. It is NOT new music. This album contains tracks from several previously released albums. It does not disappoint.

I have enjoyed other Liquid Mind selections that I have purchased, but this one is TOTAL relaxation. Very nice to use after a long day, while reading, or just before bed. You won't be disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars actually disappointed..., March 31, 2010

I can only give this three stars esp after spending the last month listening to Dreamwaves and Music to inspire positive thinking. I found all the tracks to pretty much be the same song with minor changes. I didnt catch it at first from the samples because they were so short.

There's about one maybe two tracks that are good which conveniently are the album only versions. I would suggest getting only those tracks, but alas it seems the artist doesn't want to you. As such, I would suggest not buying any and find another cd. That or just get one and loop it. "/

Aside from every track having the same feel and sound movement, only one of them ever seems to "move" me. Each song really does seem to be the same song slightly changed in key and all have the same pattern of never going anywhere. You have deep synth pads that just go ooooooooohhh and then change to an aaaaaaaaah over like an 8 beat count. Then to layer that up they add a few higher synth pads that kind of oscillate like a woooo wooooo woooo woooo, and that's about it. At times I personally felt the oscillating higher synths became a little annoying at points. I really wished there were some melodic tonalities or some kind of melody even if only slightly phrased to create a harmonic flow of tension and release. It's not something I feel I can sit and actively listen to and that it also fails drastically as an atmospheric background scene in comparison to other artists. When you listen to the samples and hear the first few seconds of the song, the rest of it is 85% exactly the same. That's what I mean when I say they never build or go anywhere. It never builds and the cord choices never create a true movement of harmony (emotional story told by the chords chained together like a sentence)

I find it hard to believe that it's received nothing but 5 stars until now. IF you find yourself wanting to make the purchase and cant decide, I recommend listening to teach me to whisper the first track and you get a sense of what I'm saying in regards to just drones of aaaaaaaahs and ooooohs with light higher pads oscillating. Then imagine that on loop... then change the pitch and the speed and some of the sounds of that song and voila.. your album. This is ofc with the exception of "Awakening"
which is the only track that I like and the one that I feel moves me. It seems the artist probably just got lucky and found an awesome preset sound in his keyboard that he was afraid to use in the other tracks and used it here and marked that song album only to try and get album sales otherwise most people would just buy that one track (hence the album only version lock I would wager). I say he got lucky finding a sweet preset sound because there aren't any other awesome tones on here like that one so it clearly wasn't something he created/dialed.

I kinda feel bad giving it this review but it really does pale in comparison. If you would like to check out my recommendation for a better alternative, I would suggest one of the sonicaid cd's (Dr. Lee Bartel). My next purchase will probably be "Music To Improve Relaxation" as I have the music to inspire positive thinking and I cant stop listening to it as background or foreground music. Listening to the samples none of them sound the ones I have but I can clearly hear the artists style and feel those tracks have melodic movement which I feel is paramount to finding relaxation. To me a melody structure that moves will have tension and then release and music for relaxation should have some amount of tension so that it can then move to and focus on the release thereby creating a sense and emotional state of relaxation.

Am delighted with this CD. Wouldn't suggest listening to it while driving, but for relaxation and sleep, it can't be beat. Too many music CD's that claim to be for relaxation or meditation have sections that are shrill, busy, or too complex. This lovely collection of pieces allows the listener to sink into a rich, slow-motion series of musical vignettes. The selections are not predictable or repetitive, but do provide that floating, peaceful sensation that best accompanies deep relaxation. Am planning to purchase more for friends.

I also own VI, V, and VIII. I almost never listen to them anymore because this a such a complete body of work on its own. There is no new music here, but if you are new to Liquid Mind, you simply must check out this album. Although I listen to this music before bedtime almost every night, it is much more than just ethereal, wandering sounds. There are real tonal differences that create more than just background noise. Outstanding.

Tranquility at it's best. Great for meditation, calming those fussy babies, or just to relax at the end of a good OR bad day.
