Discovering this album was like finding a beautiful old novel in a 2nd-hand bookshop - a rare gem that you certainly won't let go of once you've found it.
Some of the jazz greats - Hazell Scott, Charles Mingus and Max Roach - combine to give us an album of relaxed, satisfying jazz standards you can sit down with a scotch and a good book to listen to and enjoy.
Sadly much of Hazel Scott's works seems to have been left behind in the transition from LPs to CDs. Finding any of her albums on CD is hard - this taste of a great jazz pianist at work is one of the few available.
If you've enjoyed listening to Buena Vista Social Club of Dave Brubeck's Take Five, you are certain to find this a very satisfying album.

Superb! Superb! This is just a peak into one of this country's greatest pianist's range.

Hazel Scott had the ability to start off with a classical piece and by the end of that piece it nearly turned to boogie-woogie. She has that talent and ability with her awesome range.

She played without effort! The keys felt in love with the warmth of her very finger tips.

Hazel Scott is my all time favorite. I have played her fast paced and slow paced music. This one is very relaxing. Listen to the samples and buy it!

This CD was my first exposure to Hazel Scott. How does she PLAY like that--and I mean not only play the piano, but personalize the arrangements and show such personality. Whew! Now I have every CD she every made, and want to get the DVDs of the movies she made. The woman's amazing! If you want to get lost in her otherwordly talent...if you want to listen and just dream...get romantic...you wanna listen to Hazel Scott. She is utterly amazing!
