5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book, September 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Relaxercise: The Easy New Way to Health and Fitness (Paperback)
I've read Amazon reviews for years, but never bothered to write one. I have to write a review of this book to tell people how wonderful it is. I own many Feldenkrais books, and this one takes first prize for ease of use and effectiveness. It really works! The instructions are so simple and well-illustrated - and the exercise so short and easy to do - you'll never want to stop doing them. Look, the proof is in the pudding, and I've used this book religiously for over 6 months! It has helped straighten my scoliosis and I feel, move and look like a brand new person. Please, if you don't like it, send it back, but spend the money if you're at all interested in learning about the brilliant Feldenkrais method. It'll be the best $15 you ever spend. It was for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous for those who suffer chronic pain, January 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Relaxercise: The Easy New Way to Health and Fitness (Paperback)
This set of exercises has been the only thing that has proved beneficial to my trigeminal neuralgia. On days when I could not do even yoga; when I could not even brush my teeth, my Feldenkrais exercises were what helped relax and reorient my muscles so that I could function.

Easy, relaxing, you can do some of these exercises anywhere--even in the choir loft or on the train--with nobody knowing but yourself, and the benefits are noticeable immediately, but progressive. I love this book!

I found this book practical and beneficial. I had noticeable improvements in posture, back, neck and shoulder pain, on practising just 2 of the chapters in this book. Recommended highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction to Feldenkrais Work, February 19, 2008
By
This review is from: Relaxercise: The Easy New Way to Health and Fitness (Paperback)
The exercises presented in this book are effortless, simple, and effective. They are more like neurological lessons than something to rote memorize and do. Through slow, easing, and mindful movements we can learn about our body and how it works. Our subconscious mind starts to reorganize our movements and we feel ourselves functioning with more ease. There are further lessons than these basic ones, but these basic ones can carry you a long way in the process and are a necessary foundation for what comes next. I would recommend some of the cassettes or CDs that verbally guide people through the exercises. It is a little more direct than reading something and then doing it.

I bought this book because it was given to my rolfer by a doctor who treated her for injuries she suffered in an auto accident and she felt I could benefit from doing these exercises as well. She was so right! I have had back and neck injuries resulting from years of heavy lifting as well as several auto accidents in my past. Over many years, I have sought relief from my medical doctor, physical therapist, massage therapist, chiropractor and rolfer and although had improvement, I still had stiffness and low back pain and discomfort every single day. The day this book arrived, I read through it and did a few exercises and from that first day, the pain and stiffness greatly receded and is now gone for the first time in years! The most amazing part is that I received the book less than 2 weeks ago! The exercises are so easy it's hard for me to believe they could work especially since I have done thousands of hours of yoga exercises over the years but it has not accomplished what these exercises have in 15 minutes a day for less than 2 weeks! Amazing!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Product., February 7, 2004

This book is an outstanding contribution to the field of health, fitness, and sports. I have used it prior to playing sports to align my posture and increase the efficiency of my movements. I have recommmended this book to clients after they have finished their Medical Doctor and Physcial Therapist Interventions. I believe it assists traditional medical interventions to be even more effective by naturally restoring lost mobility and movement patterns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do not overlook this one, November 19, 2010
By
This review is from: Relaxercise: The Easy New Way to Health and Fitness (Paperback)
After two years of use, I recommend this book unreservedly. It gives ten simple exercise sequences that anyone can do -- they not only require no effort, they positively require the absence of effort. More obvious sequences like ones for spine and abdominal core are accompanied by others addressing, for example, the jaw or eyeballs. All are effective, and together they constitute an extremely valuable whole-system tuneup. You take it entirely at your own pace and there is never any strain.

A disclaimer: I really know nothing about the Feldenkrais method. I've read a little but have never consulted a practitioner. Everything I know about actually doing it, I got from this book; based on that alone I'm extremely impressed. The method helps a human being become more human, engages the movement system to change perception, and does help with wiser living in a more parasympathetically activated persona, as well as a more flexible, balanced, and pain-free body.

This book goes in that category, too sparsely populated, of real *keeper* books with which you can make definite and reliable changes in your life, for the better, long-term. It's by no means easy to pass on a distinctively-flavored movement regimen in a book, but this one manages it elegantly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, April 4, 2011

I ordered this book with skepticism, an osteopath recommended it. After trying some of the exercises though, I have to say it is shocking. You truly feel different after working through the moves, more aligned and relaxed. The book says to do 2 or 3 exercise sections a day so it is a manageable amount too. I have gone to massage therapy for years and work out regularly, I would say this books is a complement to both.
